Question about PC Desktops

Freezes up at 3/4 boot 90% time

Friend has the computer. He tried booting several days in a row and then one day fooled with maybe the F10 or F8 key and got into the system at startup and did something and it worked a couple of times - ie booted up.

I came over to his house and it was running and I installed WiFi and then downloaded some registry fixit from the net ie CCcleaner and Advanced PC Repair and then began a system defragment but stopped it about half way through. Then turned off his computer and ever since it has not booted past about 3/4 boot up and mouse freezes and control alternate delete does not work so must either use shutdown button or turn off and turn on the power to get it too reboot.

My screen is blue and I dont have the disk

Try running the restore software that is built into the computer on the protected partition; this is usually available by pushing the "F10" key upon boot up, that is, as soon as you see the dell logo on the screen, push the "F10" key. You could also try to boot the computer into "SafeMode" by pushing the "F8" key at boot up. Safemode will only offer a limited repair option but it will allow you access to diagnostic and repair options in windows.

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers, if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.

Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

Once you're done in Safe mode if you want to get back into Normal Windows restart the computer like you normally would and let it boot normally. Click here to get additional information about getting out of Safe mode.

My acer netbook starts and you can see the screen works but couple seconds later it just turns black. Can anyone tell me why its doing that?

Hi,

It appears that Operating system is failing to load. Try the steps below:

1. Turn Off the computer
2. As soon as you power button to turn ON the computer keep on tapping the F8 key, it will boot to Advance boot menu,
3. Select Safemode with the help of Down arrow keys and hit Enter
4. If the computer is booting to Safemode then there is no hardware failure, you can try full system restore.

To do a full system restore, please follow the below mentioned steps:
1. Turn Off the computer
2. As soon as you hit the power button keep on holding the Alt key and keep on tapping the F10 key ie Alt+F10
3. It will boot to Acer Recovery Console
4. Select Full System restore and follow the on screen instruction

NOTE: This is erase everything from the computer including any data; pictures or music

Thanks and regards,

First of all you have to see that your system is properly configured to boot from CD,to see that please follow the below steps.
When you start your PC press "Del" key or "F8" to go into BIOS menu.
Using the arrows on your keyboard, scroll down to "Boot Device Select" and press "Enter."
There you select first boot device as Cd/DVD and press F10 and enter.

Pc freezes up after installment of windows xp service pk 3

The computer freezes when it boots?

If so try to download spyware Terminator and Malwarebytes and run a full scan with both programs,
When you go the malwarebytes page download the free trial version. If your computer wont stay running long enough to do this try to boot in safe mode by pressing F8 or F10 before you see the windows loading screen
