If it's not a faulty remote control the the TV may need resetting by removing the mains plug for a few minutes and then replacing.
Many modern sets (which are basically a computer with a tuner) will effectively, like a computer, simply crash.
You need to isolate it from the mains by removing the plug rather than just switch it off on the set. Crashes normally result in some of the remote functions not working.
This also applies to PVRs and set-top boxes as well.
