SOURCE: Maytag Dryer Loud Shrieking Noise

Here we go. First unplug the unit. Remove the front panel by removing the 4 phillips screws just inside the door (on the hinges and just opposite). Next remove the greenish/ brown 5/16 screws that hold the front panel in. There are wires still connected (door switch and moisture sensor) but if you swing it to the side, you can leave them connected and still procede. Next, you have to reach underneath (very difficult to see this so you will have to do it by feel) There is a belt that wraps around the drum. On the underneath side of the drum as you follow the belt it wraps
around the motor pulley (small wheel) and the tensioner pulley (bigger wheel just to the right). Now with one hand, move the larger pulley towards the msaller one. This will give you slack and you can take the belt off both pulleys. Now pull the drum
forward. There you have the inner workings left. Now, there are 3 wheels. 2 black and 1 white. I would check the white one since you've already replaced the black ones. This is the pulley that provides tension when the motor is running (hence no noise when you take the belt off) I'm betting you'l find it does not turn freely (you should be able to spin it with your finger and have it coast to a stop insdead of stopping as soon as you take your finger off). You can get the replacement wheel from your local appliance parts store or on line from the manufatrues web site. However, if you do have to wait for the part, take the wheel off the shaft and wipe off the inside race of the wheel and the shaft for temporarily relife and useage.

SOURCE: lg dryer - front load - making a grinding noise

I also have the same problem as klrlesimmons, exactly as described. Sounds like sand is rubbing as the drum turns, and also sounds out of balance.

Repairmen replaced upper and lower glides and also the plastic bearing but not the entire bearing assembly.

Squeeking noise are the barron going bad

Squeaking noises are NOT necessarily an indication of bearing failure - but could be an indication of a slipping belt or something else rubbing. The machine itself may be rubbing against a washer, wall, door jamb, or anything really.

Look around the machine. See if it is in contact - or close to ant of these things. When it is running - it could be bumping against something. If nothing is found - have a look inside the the dryer. Inspect the belt and clean the drum where the belt tracks. Repl;ace the belt it is ready to break, missing parts or de-laminating. If you find shiny metal filings - that indicates metal is rubbing somewhere and is likely to be the cause of the squeak.

Good luck.

My tumble dryer makes a screeching noise

Something is rubbing against the drum or the belt is slipping, either case you will have to remove the top cover to carry out further investigation. There are usually screws at the back of the machine to allow removal of the cover. Take care of live wires when operating the machine with the cover off.

My dryer was squeaking really bad, so I sprayed WD 40 on the pulley & belt, squeaking stopped but the dryer also stopped turning. The pulley still turns but the dryer drum doesn't

The belt is slipping now. Need to clean the WD40 off, use methylated spirits, isopropyl or rubbing alcohol on a cloth.

Thumping/rubbing sound in drum

The belt tensioner roller has a flat spot caused by a worn bearing that catches and stops whilet the drum is turning. This causes the flat spot and the noise its making. You can purchase a new roller by itself and do change the belt the same time too

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

Thanks for using FixYa!

Dryer squeaks while drying sounds like drum rubbing on something

A squeak can also be a slipping belt or something caught between the drum bearings usually the front but could be the back one.

Squeeks loadly when running

The drum belt is slipping or a support wheel bearing is worn.  Spray some belt dressing on the belt or replace the belt.  Lubricate the wheel bearing or replace it.  It is also possible that the seal between the drum and the housing (at the back) is worn and the drum is rubbing metal-to-metal on the housing.

Rubbing noise

Try checking the glide's under the front of the drum, the drum rest on the glide's to help it spin with little or no friction.
