Question about Fargo DTC400 ID Card Printer Package

Ribbon mis-cue? I have fargo dtc 400 and the message says "ribbon mis-cue" How do I fix this? Any advise?

When you have a ribbon mis-cue, first remove the ribbon. Go to the printer driver, printing preferences, calibrate, sensors. Click sesors then send... You should hear 2 beeps. Put you ribbon back in and try to print again.

If you still have the mis-cue it is a belt issue all DTC400's made 2006 and prior have had this belt issue. I don't recommend fixing this yourself, send it to a authorized Fargo repair center. This way it is under warranty.

Ribbon not available


if this message appears only when you are trying to print, then most likely you have in the printer drivers a different ribbon set compared to what is in the printer.

Thank you for contacting fixya. The fargo machine only work with original ribbon. Check your ribbon that is original or not. Sometimes it happens when the sensor has any issue.

Pictures and information on ID cards rubs off after printing


Go into "Printers and Faxes", found in your start menu. Right click on the printer (Dtc 550). Select Printing Preferences. Under the "Device Options" tab, click "Auto Ribbon Select" (make sure to have the ribbon installed, as you would normally).

After being prompted with a "Success" message, try printing again.

If the problem persists, you need to update the printer's firmware. you can find the firmware file and update utility, Fargo Workbench, here Drivers Downloads

There might be a problem with the O ring that drives the card feed rollers. Fargo's older DTC 400 has this issue seriously which causes regular fees roller issues like ribbon breakage or misaligment of print reg etc.., but in new DTC I heard that they had ifx this problem, Still I dont know your product is new or old.

Doing a ribbon sensor calibration usually solve this problem by your print driver. For more 'how to do instructions' please visit here and ask your doubts and download the maual.

Screen reading wrong ribbon - had the same ribbon in it since the last printing.


My DTC300 printer has the same problem.

The ribbon supply roller is driven by a small motor connected via an O-ring belt. The printer rolls the ribbon back and forth to locate the start of each color panel on the ribbon during printing and ribbon detection. Without the O-ring, the ribbon only moves toward the take-up spool, eventually going slack so that the color detector only sees one color - hence the "wrong ribbon" message. In my printer, the slack ribbon also gets chewed up in the print head.

You can order a whole belt kit (~ $20 + shipping) or you can locate a generic O-ring belt (1.8mm x 26mm).

is a printer thermal head dirty on same position. clean with a clean dry cloth, and special cleaner (see on manual)

Fargo DTC400 is giving me "INVALID RIBBON" error


I think you or your machine have answered your own question. The machine said it isn't going to use the 300 ribbon and that is that.

I dont have experience with your particular model but I can tell you a Ford starter will not start a Chevrolet automobile.

I think you should take the 300 ribbon back and get a 400. If they wont take it back, trade somewhere else.

So, what do you say?

Your RFID tag might be bad. You might want to replace RFID board.

My DTC 400 bladge printer jams a lot.


The DTC400 has an o ring that drives the card feed rollers. Fargo has had a problem on older DTC400 printers with the o ring stretched or broke. This causes irregular feed roller issues, ribbon breakage or misalignment of print registration.

It is recommended to do a ribbon sensor calibration. This can be done through your print driver using the directions in this link.
