SOURCE: We have a model VP1600E Propane Space Heater

Hi there,

Not sure I can help but will try. Sounds like you have a blockage in the pipe or jet and when it heats up it is choking. Best way to clean Propane and/or Gas heaters is to blow compressed air through the pipe. You may be able to just blow the air down the pilot light and main jet and it could fix the problem and clear the jet.

If not you will need to pull off the covers to expose the piping and look for the pipe going to the jet or pilot and if you can undo the pipe and blow compressed air through it. You may find a bit of dirt or carbon is causing the blockage. If you undo any pipes make sure you tighten them back up. Hope this solves your problem.

Bryan

SOURCE: propane convection heater won't maintain full flame

Seems like the valve is not opening up fully or the adjustment is out of adjustment. Try adjusting the flame.

make sure you have the gas valve knob on turned to pilot while pressing that down while pushing the spark it should light or it is tripped on a safety like rollout switch or oxygen depletion sensor if equipped which all ventless heaters are

SOURCE: Pool Heater Light main burner then goes out

take millivolt reads while main burner is on.i suspect you will see a drop in voltage until you get to point where it will no longer operate burner(around 200mv).if this is the case you probably have poor pilot characteristics due to dirty pilot, pilot out of adjustment ,obstruction or insufficient gas pressure

Your pilot flame should be blue with a small yellow tip, and it should cover the thermocouple (a small rod in front of the pilot light). If the flame is too small and doesn't cover the thermocouple, it may be adjusted too low, or you have low gas pressure or you have a leak in your gas line coming in to the heater. If the flame looks like a lazy yellow flame, you are probably not getting enough air to the flame. Check that your air openings around the pilot are not clogged up. If the flame looks like a waving blue flame then you probably have excessive draft at the pilot. If the pilot flame looks good and covers the thermocouple, then the thermocouple might be bad. Best of luck. I hope I have helped.

Pilot light continues to go out on OTL MD300TBE heater

This happens to mine all the time and I wire brush the carbon off the metal tip of the thermocouple and give the pilot and surrounding areas a good blast of compressed air to clear the dust and carbon. Works fine after these cleanings.

Dyna glo tag along propane heater pilot stays on but when turning

sounds like either a bad thermocouple or more likely a pressure regulator problem. should have unit checked by someone familiar with propane systems.

Pilot lites; but, as soon as I turn on gas flame

sounds like your thermacouplar is going out and needs replaced. Sometimes these will act like they are working fine , but when the pilot stays on for awhile and later goes out it is a sure sign that it is bad

It sounds like a thermocouple has gone bad. this is a very common problem with gas powered things ie; water heaters, furnaces, hot tubs. The telltale sign is when you release the pilot light button it won't stay lit. This is a safety feature and is relatively inexpensive and easy to repair.

Hi the thermocouple is a long copper wire that goes back to the gas valve from the pilot .

i would clean the flame senser first , then check the pressure switch jump this out , then check the fan control or snap disc jump this out see if it runs if you need A THERMOCOUPLE then honeywell universal will do

I have a propane reddi heater and I can't get it to stay on after I light it, it won't stay on. Is there something that needs to be cleaned or replaced

Generally speaking a propane heater stays lite because the pilot stays lite. The pilot flame touches a thermocouple which produces a current which keeps the main valve open. Pilot goes out or you have a bad thermocouple or the pilot is slightly clogged (reduced heat to thermocouple) or maybe the thermocouple is not touching the flame enough. Most times when a propane heater goes out the problem is somewhere in that neighborhood. Thermocouple - pilot. I have always had luck carefully taking those parts off, cleaning, and reassembling, but check the position of the thermocouple first. Looks like a small brass rod which sticks into the flame. This is a safety mechanism to prevent the flame being blown out and leaving the gas on. Good luck

Pilot lite will not stay lite

You need to change the thermocouple on the unit.

First check to see if the flame is hitting the thermocouple when the flame is on when you hold down the button. If it is then remove the the thermocouple and replace with the same size. You should be able to pick one up at your local hardware store.

If when you replace the thermocouple the flame does not stay lit still you may have a bad gas valve.
Hope this helps and please rate this!
