Question about Velleman VTLAN4 LAN TESTER FOR RJ45 RJ12 RJ11 RJ10

1 Answer

What do I do? I have a cat 5 cable in my house wiring from one floor to another. Had used this to connect internet between two computers. I do not know if this cable will still connect. I have connected the "tester" and the "Remote" together with the short cable. Do I now add another cable and plug into my wall plug??

you plug one end in "tester" and other end in "remote" and if it's all good and you are testing straight-through cable it should go from 1 to 8 in sequence. short cable is test (good cable) to show you if there is a problem with your unit. Whatever you see with short cable you should see with your cable.

How do i connect internet to t.v.

There are two ways.

One is with a CAT 5 network cable or a gadget that puts the Internet signal into your home wiring to take it to another part of the house.

The other is wirelessly using the wifi signal to the television.

You need to read the manual :>)

Need to connect reurbished dell GX520 to existing internet

first connect the "cat 5" cable to the dell's network card, the card has a square-ish hole with a little "cutout" in the top (for the cable's connector tab) the other end of the "cat 5" cable goes into the back of the router (you do have an existing router?) into one of the un-used square-ish holes (same cutout for the tab).
Then turn on the computer, see if the computer will "connect" to the router (that means it sees the router in computer-ish software).
IF that works then connect the router to the Modem (supplied by the "Internet Provider"... Then turn on the modem....

IF all goes well, your computer will now be able to connect to the existing internet.

Now for problems...

IF it seems to be connected correctly using the proper cat 5 cable, and it still will not work... turn off everything, start with the internet modem, then the router, then the computer... COUNT to 30 (1, 2, 3, 4... 29, 30) turn on the internet modem... count to 90 (1,2,3,4...90) turn on the router... count to 30 (1,2,3,4...30) turn on the computer... wait for it to fully boot, look down at the lower right of the screen and see if it can connect now.

IF it still doesn't connect, you may have to try another network card in the computer, or get a wireless USB "thingy" to connect to a wireless router...

Hope this helps...

I have 10 computers and 2 printers networked in the office. I'd like to hae them all wired. I bought a 10/100 switch but not sure how to hook it up with my router. Any advice?

Most low to mid range switches require no configuration. Switch-to-router connections use a standard straight-through CAT-5 network cable, same as for your PC. Connect any switch port to any LAN port on the router (you didn't say if your router has more than one) and then connect your PCs and printers to the other switch ports with CAT-5 network cables. The WAN port on the router remains connected to the upstream (Internet) provider.

I'm assuming that you have a modem or a modem and router combination with multiple cat5 ourputs. You have tried both computers with the Cat5 cable and they both work fine. If this is the case, I would suspect that you have a faulty fastcat 5 cable.

How to make a d-link 264 ob into a repeater I have a three story house with wireless on the ground floor and the signal is very poor at the top. I want to repeat the signal on the second floor.

Move your wireless to the second floor or add a second wireless router to your second floor. Use CAT 5 or 6 cable. Run it in a closet or cold air return. Use the special cat 5 or 6 for cold aire return use. Do not put it in a heated duct.

DL 524 router with a mac

When you connect the MAC to the router with the CAT 5 cable it works , that means the wired connection of the router is working but the wireless is not working.
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
Is there any computer connected to the router with the cable ?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router and open the set up page of the router.

I keep losing my wireless connection inside my home. My modem is in the basement and I want to use my laptop upstairs. I use an N router and have cable internet. My house is also wired with Cat 5 wiring...

Well , the connection upstairs depends on the capabilities of the router that how much coverage it can give for the wireless clients associated.

Since , it is a N-router so try upgrading the drivers for it , the technical term will be firmware.Upgrade the firmware of the router to the latest one and you might have your issue resolved.

2nd Computer in basement cannot access Internet

if your signal is low in there the best work around would be to lay a cat-5 cable up to the router, the wired connection would be faster and more reliable then a wireless, or buy another wireless router and put it closer to the basement than the first and wire the 2 routers togher with cat5 using the second router as a fancy switch.

Test your CAT 5 cable on your laptop again, but first right-click your wireless icon, and click open network connections. Then right-click the LANconnection and click Enable. That should do the trick.

Additional computers & internet access

You can do this. Identify the ip address of your main router. EXAMPLE: If your main router has 192.168.1.1, you can connect the cat5 cable from your main router to the INTERNET PORT of the NR041. Set the NR041 ip to 192.168.2.1.

JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE IP ADDRESS OF THE TWO ROUTERS ARE DIFFERENT.

You can then connect the 3 computers to the NR041
