Do not check the check box as leaving the touchpad enabled while using an external mouse will not cause any harm.

Try downloading the Touchpad drivers, then you will have that option.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers.

You can disable the touchpad once you have the touchpad driver installed. Most times when it installs the touchpad will be at the bottom right near the time. you should also be able to get to it in the Control Panel.

How do I disable the touch pad on my Latitude E5400? The curser jumps all over when I type. On my other laptops, there is a button clearly marked to disable the touch pad and this has solved the problem....

  1. Click Start.
Go to Start, click Run, type main.cpl in the box next to Open, click OK.
  2. Click the Dell Touchpad tab.
  3. If you are not getting the Dell Touchpad tab, update your driver, you will get the Tab.
  4. Click on the picture of the touchpad.
    Click Device Select.
Click to check the box to the left of Disable Touchpad / Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present.
    Click Apply, then click OK.
  5. Click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.

The mouse on my dell keyboard has a mind of its own, can i fix or disable it

Go to
http://driverscollection.com/?H=Latitude%20D800&By=Dell
and download and install the driver for the touchpad. If that does not solve your problem then use a USB mouse and forget about having the touchpad.

Touch pad is not working in my dell latituse 600

If the touchpad is not working, then ensure that the touchpad is not disabled in the BIOS, in control panel ensure that is is not disabled there either. If the touchpad is not disabled in BIOS or Control Panel, then a palmrest would be required to fix the issue. On a system of that age, I'd just use a wireless mouse till I was ready to replace the system
