SOURCE: Dyson DC 18 Model won't stand upright on it's own

There is a flip lever that locks it in place and redirects the airflow to the hose when you put it in the upright position. It binds, then eventually breaks. I'm not having much luck finding replacement parts to fix mine.

You'll see that there is a round piece with a cross shape on the inside of the button wand release button - place the end of the spring over the cross - you'll see the same cross on the collar of the'll take some doing, but line the other end of the spring up with the cross and pop the button back into place - be sure to click it onto those two gray circular/oval shaped divets at the bottom where the release button connects to so that the button stays in place.

SOURCE: No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at

SOURCE: my dyson vacuum won' t transfer vacuum to the

  • Well you need to find out where the blockage is coming from.
  1. First place to check is the wand and hose. To do this you want to push back on the wand cap and pull the metal tube from the inside upwards until the wand handle and the hose pull away from the vacuum. And to separate the wand from the handle hose you need to press the red button to release it that is located on the wand handle and separate the wand and hos (see picture.
  2. Now turn the vacuum on and see if there is suction. If there is suction. If the is suction then you need to clear the blockage form the wand and or hose.
  3. If not the see comments below picture.

  • The problem could also be from the brush bar. To check this please go to this link and watch the small instructional video.
  • Make sure the dirt container is cleaned out good too.
  • Make sure there are no major rips or tears in the hose either.
  • One of these is your problem and it can happen from time to time from vacuuming over something unintended. Unclog it using the tips I provided and you will be goo to go.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

There is a sock stuck in the hose of my dyson dc23 animal motorhead how do I get it out

Hi, this is Jim with Crucial Vacuum,

Detach the hose and stretch it out completely, if the sock is in a hard to reach place use a broom handle to push it out. Be careful to mind the edges of the hose you don't want to cause a tear, which would lead to poor suction.

How do i remove the brush bar?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's quick and easy to remove the brush bar from DC23's turbine head - there are two round catches to turn, and a slider catch to undo:

Once you've removed the soleplate, the two brush bar sections pull out. You can then check the Turbine head for blockages, and carefully cut away any threads or hair taking care not to damage the bristle tufts.

I hope this helps. If you'd like any further advice on using or maintaining your DC23, just give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Machine shut off when suction release button was accidentally pushed. Now it won't come back on! What should I do?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The issue you've described sounds very unusual. DC23 has a suction relief trigger underneath the hand grip of the wand handle, but this isn't connected to the vacuum's electrical components and shouldn't cause the vacuum to cut out in use.

However like most Dyson vacuums, DC23 is engineered to shut off for protection if it starts to overheat. This may occur if the machine is used when blocked, or if the filter is overdue for a wash. It should reset automatically after it's had around 2 hours to cool down, but to prevent it from happening again please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

In normal use, we recommend washing the lifetime pre-filter at least once every 3 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident following these steps will resolve the issue, but if you'd like further help or advice after giving this a try, please call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

The telescoping wand on my Dyson DC 25 will not retract back into the hose.

Hi Nina, it's Jack at Dyson.

Difficulty collapsing the wand can mean that the plastic handgrip section hasn't been correctly placed on the machine. When you replace the wand on the machine, make sure the handgrip section clips onto the main body and is down as far as it will go.

It's also a good idea to make sure that the hose isn't twisted, as a twisted hose can create resistance as you try to collapse the wand. Remove the wand again and allow the hose to untwist itself fully before attempting to replace the wand on the machine.

I'm confident these steps should resolve the issue, but if you would like some further guidance after you've given this a try, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson DC11 wand does not lock in place when extended for use, very frustrating!

Hi Susan, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC11's wand. It's important to make sure each section is extended fully - you should here the clips 'click' as they lock. If it doesn't seem to do this, it's worth checking to make sure none of the clips have been damaged in any way. If you can see damage, it may be necessary to replace the wand - you can order spares directly from

If you'd like some further help with this, you can reach our experts directly by calling the Dyson customer Helpline. Our numbers are 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Dyson dc23 animal

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC23 Animal. If the turbinehead doesn't seem to be working as well as usual, this may be due to a blockage. The filter may also need a wash.

The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

In normal use, the filter should be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).
