SOURCE: Emerson microwave light out
There is a way but.... you will have to remove outer cover generally held on with screws at rear and under microwave be sure the oven is unplugged and when you take cover off there is a capacitor in there thats holds a charge stored even when oven is unplugged so dont touch nothing except the light bulb would prefer if you dont have much electrical experience to take to repair shop or have someone do it who has a little electrical knowledge hope this helps

Have 1 of 2 choices, the main fuse or the control board for the front switches and clock. primary of the small power transformer has opened. Unplug the unit and take case off and measure the fuse with an ohm meter. if u read 1 ohm or less then fuse is good. then measure across the main power plug tips. If read open then the power transformer is bad. Need to replace the board as not sure if transformer is available.

SOURCE: Light bulb replacement
the light bulb is usually in cavity behind the control board.to access that first remove the outer cover of the unit by removing all screw at the back.after removing the cover u will have access to yhe cavity behind the cntrl board and the light bulb.....good luck.

assuming the micro responds to whatever setting you set on the controls, that is: time, temp, & on/off , then the problem most likely is in the magnatron energy portion. Of this portion, the biggest problems are the hi-volt diode and hi-volt capacitor, or the connections to them (sometimes arc and burn to the point of failed contact). CAUTION: there is 2000volt stored energy in this circuit and it will shock you very much if you do not de-energize it; simply unplugging the unit will not deenergize this portion of the circuit. You must short the terminals of the capacitor with a metal object that has an insulated handle. If you get a reasonable spark from this shorting, then the capacitor is probably ok, and the diode (black rectangle attached to one terminal of the capacitor) is the culpret. However, if the diode is bad, the capacitor may not charge up and you think it is bad (when in fat it is not). You need a capacitor tester or you need to remove the capacitor and have it tested, so also the diode tested. If these test ok, then you either need the power transformer or the magnatron. The tranformer and magnatron are expensive to by as lone parts; better to find a discarded micro and salvage these parts (they are very interchangeable to a greater degree).
Or, go to a appliance repair place after you have checked out your unit and tell them that you need these parts tested . I'm sure they will have some salvage parts to offer you. Goodluck, Macgivor
