I was a typewriter tech for seven years. To see if your ribbon needs replace gently pinch it with your finger you should get some ink on them, if not, replace ribbon. Generally speaking, step one if your not sure how to change the ribbon take a picture before you thing , this will give you a chance to get it back together. New ribbon install/ 1. Look at the ribbon, with the hood up,type, and watch to see which spool is paying and which spool is taking up. 2. With your finger turn the take up spool until the ribbon is all on one reel. 3. Note how the ribbon sits in a guide on both right and left spools ( take a picture) 4. The tuff part, the ribbon is laced thought the "hammer block" where the type-heads go to strike the ribbon. (Take a picture) either you lift and lower and lift to " unthread" the ribbon or the other way around, it's not rocket science just note every move you make take pictures. If you get stuck or need further info send back info and pictures and we will go from there. Tip, when typewriters where replaced buy computers many typewriter service company were in the beginning phases of the copier revolution. Many type techs began working on both, you may find help from a long establish local copier company. Good luck, Bret

* When this message appears, replace the old ribbon with the new ribbon of the same type. The printer has already prepared the card data for this ribbon type. You can change the colors of monochrome ribbon (such as from dark blue to gold).
* If you must change the type of ribbon (such as (YMCKT to KT) when this message appears, install the new ribbon, cancel any cards waiting to print, and change the ribbon type settings. Finally, return to the card creation program to send the card data to print.
* If the ribbon was repaired, the wrong take-up spool was used. Repair the ribbon again, using the correct take-up spool.

Tally Genicom T 2265 Printer print head.
The following information regarding Print Head is taken from Website. Please go through carefully.
Print heads are very sensitive from the type of ribbons you use. These textile tapes, used as consumable in dot matrix printers are made by special technologies. They are impregnated with ink and special oils, which lubricate the print head wires during printing. While print head works, the quantity of ink and lubricant in ribbon exhausts, and the quality of printed matter gradually declines. When this quantity goes down below certain limits the ribbon begins wear to threads. These fine textile fibers mix with cellulose filaments from the paper and form a dark gray dust. This is a sure sign that the ribbon is dangerously worn and must be changed with a new one. Otherwise you will soon need a print head repair service.
Still not satisfied about those points, please get in touch with local authorized printer service engineer to set right the issue.
Have a Nice Day
The same problems you may have with "old" ribbons, because after time the lubricants and inks get dry. The usage of "worn" or "dry" ribbon leads to difficult movement of the printhead's wires, its quick wear or crush. If you wish to use your printhead for a long time without any problems, you must use a quality ribbons with an original guarantee.
Never use re-inked old ribbons. This surely guides you to print head repair or to buy a new one.
It is a good idea to read the User's Guide for your printer, if you have not already done so. If you don't succeed in finding it, then carefully look at your printer and try to find the lever for printhead positioning, it controls the printhead gap. You must adjust manually this gap in correspondence with the number of printed copies.
you need consider:
1) it should be no gap between roller--ribbon--card and base when it printing need enough pressure on the card. if not enough pressure it could be printing bad.
2) the ribbon move under the roller might be not normal, to check or adjust it
3) the ribbon near the end, need to change
hope it help you
Winding technique: To wind a new ribbon, take the cartridge housing apart and remove the old ribbon and two cardboard cores. The new ribbon is fitted with the larger roll (the ink ribbon supply spool) at the rear side of the cartridge (as the housing is viewed when it is normally installed into the machine). The ribbon winds over the topside of the rear spool (the supply side) and feeds into the underside of the front spool (the take-up side). Make sure the ribbon is wound neatly, evenly and is tight. If the ink film has become detached or is too loose on the front spool it will not wind on and cause a machine error. If required, use a small amount of sticky tape to secure the ink film to the front cardboard spool and then neatly wind it on to the take-up spool a minimum of five turns, making sure the film does not overhang at the edges. Now reassemble the housing and refit into the machine. If it’s still not fixed: If problems persist after fitting a new ribbon, try replacing the entire ink ribbon unit (cartridge housing + a new ink ribbon) using a new, genuine Brother unit before requesting a service; this will be less expensive as the actual housing may have been damaged and is causing the problem and this unit is readily available as a consumable item through sales outlets. If the machine still has problems, book your machine in to be repaired with an authorised Brother Service Centre.
