Question about HP Pavilion F1703 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor screen is black when hooked up to my laptop.

I've hooked up my F1703 to my Sony Viao laptop. When Windows first starts up I get the same picture on my laptop screen and my F1703. Once Windows is fully loaded my F1703 goes to sleep, the screen goes black. I've made sure the connection is correct, the drivers are loaded and updated and when I troubleshoot the monitor I get "device is working properly" and I've checked to make sure the device is enabled and showing up in my hardware list. Any suggestions.

I have a samsung lcd I just installed in my sony vaio laptop. It doesn't want to display windows only BIOS. I've been suggested to that this is a driver issue. where can I get a driver for this?

Very odd, I would hook an external monitor to the laptop and start eliminating the possible driver issue. If that doesn't work ironically I have a trashed viao laptop but the monitor is still good. Let me know-

Have you tried connecting this monitor to another computer, even a laptop. This would tell you whether the display is bad or the video card is the culprit. I suspect the monitor's power supply is dying. Taking it to a pro for repair should cost @55.00. Buying a new monitor @ $100 - $125.

I have issues with the f1703 monitor as wel - the OSD will not turn off - though the more common failure of this model is that the screen is black after a very short usage time period. Apparently, this model monitor was defective, and was recalled by HP. However, they failed to give notice, so I would recommend following up with them to attempt to get it replaced. Good luck! (Further, it could be that the defective monitor may be affecting Windows in some form or fashion, but I wanted to inform you regarding the monitor.)

Monitor clinks off and on(black screen)

I would start up in safe mode, and disable that driver. It sounds like it is a bad driver on your new pc. Then turn off the pc, hook up your new monitor and start up fresh. Your pc should automatically find the best compatible driver for you. If this won't do, can you please list the driver you did use? Maybe we can search for another one that would be compatible with your model monitor.
