Question about Bose (321GS) System

Bose V20, HDMI Connection but no sound on Samsung LE46856LCD TV

I have just bought a V20 brand new in the UK and after setting up I am unable to hear any sound on the TV while connecting via a HDMI cable supplied with the Bose system unless I have the optical dable also connected. All the instructions say if the connection is via HDMI one does not need any other cables? Also on the display only PCM 2.0 is visible not 5.1 is this a problem, this remains same if I am watching a DVD or TV channel? is this a problem? I'm sure I have connected all cables as per the instructions, I did not use the scart/splitter cable supplied with the Bose as HDMI connections are available. One other thing When attempting to setup for the Bose remote to operate my Samsung TV all the codes provided in the system list do not appear to allow the Bose remote to take charge of the TV. Other items connected are Samsung DVD recorder 275 & PS3 direct to HDMI on the TV. The incoming aerial is connected directly to the DVD & then the TV. Please can anyone advise a known issue/remedy for my problems

I have similar issues with my Bose V20 which I purchased just after Christmas, new from Bose.I have a Philips 47PFL9632D tv with 3 HDMI inputs ,I have set the V20 up as required and with my sony DVD player and Philips Bluray player connected to the TV via The V20 all I get is sound after a couple of minutes and either a black or green screen, all my equipment will work if I take away the V20,I also get the PCM 2.1 on the display. Is it time for me to give this equipment back or is there a fix for this.

    Thanks for any help

I have been working on this same problem for three weeks.  The Bose Media center is incapable with both my Directv/Tivo receiver and my Apple TV.  Using HDMI or Component Video and neither one can be run through the media center.  Audio is picked up by HDMI or component but the video is unable to shake hands with the Pioneer TV.  Solution, Not a good one!!! When you select the satellite receiver and you only hear the audio with no video, Select Settings on the Bose remote, then just hit Exit the video will then be picked up by the TV. The Bose media centers video couldn't be any weaker.  I spent many hours on line with Bose Specialists and their answer is that Video is a complex matter.  Then they should stay in audio and not make believe they have a video solution or a video product to sell.

SOURCE: PCM 2.0

I have the Bose 3-2-1 GS Series II and initially could only get PCM audio. However, I now get Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1 audio through the following connections: 1) Connected a coaxial digital audio cable from Digital Audio Out (coaxial) on the HD cable box to CBL-SAT (D) on the Bose Media Center. 2) Connected a coaxial digital
audio cable from Digital Audio Out (coaxial) on my Toshiba DVD Recorder/Player to AUX (D) on the Bose Media Center. All video connections are from the cable box to the TV and from the Toshiba recorder/player to the TV. To receive Dolby Digital audio, I press either CBL-SAT or AUX on the Bose Remote Control. Good luck!

SOURCE: Bose Lifestyle V20 Error 180

OK talked with Bose just a minute ago and they were able to correct the issue.

We disabled the power cord from the back of the media console (where the HDMI cables connect) and left it off for a minute or two.

Powered the media console back on and it is working as expected.

Was told by the Bose tech that the common reason for this issue is due to the use of the HDMI cables that have a propritary security protocol that is used between the media console and the component it is attached to (ie TV, Cable/Sat, BluRay ...ect).

I asked if there was a BIOS upgrade if it was indeed a "handshaking" issue and was told there was not one (yet).

If one becomes available, it will be shipped via mail on a CD\DVD that can be used in a CD\DVD player that is connected to the media console using the HDMI cable.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: How do I connect my iPod to Bose Lifestyle V20 System

You can only Connect a iPod via a iPod dock
Apple iPod Univeral Dock
and use either
Apple Composite AV Cable or Apple Component AV Cable
based on what Output you iPod Allows.

the list of which iPod that is supported is listed on each page of the AV Cables above.

You can use a IR Blaster Cable with the iPod Dock to control the iPod also.

SOURCE: The remote for Bose lifestyle V20 system does not

I had the same problem, and called Bose tech support. They put me on track to the solution. The code you need is under AUX, Music Player, Apple where you probably looked already. The secret is that you need to "unpair" the apple remote first. If I remeber right, in apple TV you go to settings, general, remotes and unpair your remote. It still works, but is no longer the only remote that works.

Make sure the HDMI device (TV, Blueray player) is set up for audio output. Usually HDMI 1 is the only connection that has audio out. Also some TVa have to be configured for HDMI audio out.

Hi - Don't know about the switching LEDs but there is no reason to be using both the HDMI cable AND a digital coax cable to the V20.

You should have a single HDMI (carries video and 5.1 audio) cable from the DVD to the DVD input in the V20.

No sound from rear/ surround speakers on Bose V20

Yes, very easy and cheap if you get it from the right place. Fiber Optic going from the output of the device to the input of the receiver. If your lucky enough to have an input/output fiberoptic in your tv, run the fiber from the device to the tv input, fiber the output of the tv to the receiver so not only are you getting the device full surround sound, but you'll also get better TV surround sound for those that are made with Dolby pro logic II sound. (pretty much all the newer movies and shows)
