Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I can't find a CD that works in this machine.

I have tried three different ones. Sony 700 mb supremas, Memorex CD-R 52x 700mb and Maxwell 700 mb. All show an OPC error...which means there is a problem with the disc I am using.

On the older ones, The only disc that works with them are ones that stay on them,That they are for recording music,As i put dowm in my message before, The one,s for burning (Data) On a computer will not work. The ones you need, Have to haved on them , End it tell you on the label have to stat CD-R Music ,If those one,s will not work , There is a (Problem) With the Recorder It self, Is probably gave up the goat,

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: won't record

I've just spoken to a friend who also has one of these older Philips recorders & he has the same problem.

As per my previous post, he fixed his problem by locating old stocks of blanks. New audio discs seem to have been manufactured & optimised for fast writing speeds (up to 32x speed) & this is causing the problem (you can't write at x1 or x2 speed to these new speedy discs).

Trying a few different brands of discs to try out is a whole lot cheaper than a repair. I suggest when you find a brand that works, you stock up on these discs as it seems they will become ever rarer.

Good luck!

SOURCE: I have a hardtime finding blank CD RW that work

Hi!
I have the same problem too. Tried with, of course only audio cd, TDK (no-opc rate approx 80%), Philips (40/50% and sometimes not good quality on different readers). The best, i.e. less no-opc rate, I found are Sony Premium.

Sometimes it's ok if after no-opc you turn off and restart with test (play+stop+turn on).

SOURCE: OPC Error

It implies a media Optical Power Calibration problem (google it). Did you recently start using a different type or brand of disc?

When I try to burn data files to a CD-R disc on my toshiba satellite M1115, it repeatedly tells me to insert a disc, when I have put a brand new disc in. I have used the drive to burn music discs &...

It sounds like you are trying to burn too much data onto the disk. If you want to test this theory, you can burn a small amount of data to a blank CD-R to see if it works. If it does then you do not have a hardware problem. This will be good news.
There are different sizes of CD-R media, 650MB, 700MB and larger sometimes. If you select 700MB and try to burn to a 650MB media disk, the drive will just spit out the blank disk so as not to ruin it for a future burn. Also, if you are going to make a multi-session disk (or you have accidentally selected multi session, then you will automatically waste 22 MB leaving you 650-22 /628 MB, or 700-22 or 668 MB of space to burn your data. Each additional session will also take up 22 MB of space.
There is also a chance that the media you are trying to burn to is not compatible. Some lower end brands do not use enough reflective material for some burners. You can test this theory by trying an alternate brand of media.

How many GBs are in each NexxTech 100 x CD-R - 700 MB ( 80min) 52x - spindle - storage media (ECDR48X100PK) 52x. Is it 4.7GB or 8.5?

In each CD? There's only 700 MB. Which is .7 GB. That's the standard for CDs. Writable DVDs usually have about 4.7 GB though.

I am trying to burn a CD. The playist has 15 songs, 1 hour and 101 MB. I am burning to a CD with 700 MB and 80 minutes of space. iTunes says there isn't enough room on the CD. So, I click to go ahead...

Your CDR is 700MB and you have 101MB of data to burn, isn't it obvious that you have overloaded your data by 31MB for burning? The CDR will not burn in your case. Reduce your intended data to less than 700MB and the CDR will burn.

How do you open the Verbatim "cake box" of CD-Rs 100-pack? I can't turn the "button" on the top. Is there a trick to it? Thanks.

Most cake boxes have three tabs that interlock to matching tabs on the base (the black plastic). Once the shipping plastic is removed, rotate the entire top section (usually clear plastic) counter-clockwise until the tabs are free and then lift up. A few cake boxes have screw-on tops - again turn to the left to loosen the top and lift off when it is loose.

I hope this helps.

Roxio will not burn my cdr's, it does not recognise them.

Do you have more than one CD and/or DVD player in your computer? If so, are you burning to the correct one? (You have to tell the player which). Does the CD run properly if you put music in it without trying to burn anything? Have you set the program to burn a CD and not a DVD?

Opening a memorex cd

It is always possible the person has even less knowledge of burning than you do... And they may have not done it correctly. There are a few different possibilities, of which may not be good for you. The best way for the files to be retrieved, is to put it back in the other PC and try to open. If the person did an open write ( didn't close out the disk ) You need to have a PC, writer/reader, and software that can open it up... Also, in a few rare instances, the drives have slight differences that the 2 can't read disks that are created by the other... There is also a slight possibility that the person went through the motions, and actually burned nothing. And finally, the CD Drive you have may be shot... Try another cd, and make sure that your drive works...
