Problem with Dell Latitude D600 PC Notebook

Biometric fingerprint reader not recognising me

Hi,
My Medion akoya P6612 Notebook will not recognise my fingerprint upon start-up. I think the problem relates to me de-installing the application "VitKey" which is responsible for making the fingerprint reader work. After De-installing this and rebooting my laptap, it would not recognise my fingerprint and after three unsucessful attempts it gives the option to type in a password. This does not work also. I know the password is correct, but it still says its the wrong password. Any help on how I can solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    • HI FreeTech,

Thanks for your reply. The problem is, I cannot access anything on the laptop. When I turn on the power, it immediately asks me for my fingerprint and/or password, before I can choose to start in safemode or otherwise. I have no access to any options on my laptop. :(

    • HI rocketman187,

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried that but it seems i have to get past the fingerprint reader before I can do ANY administrator tasks on the laptop. The very first thing that appears on the laptop screen upon power on is the request to input my fingerprint. When this fails three times, I input the password that i know is the right one, but it says "authorisation failed".

    • Rockitman187,

I tried pressing the F11 key on boot up but it still asked me to "Please swipe an enrolled finger". I also tried your passwords where it says "Please Type in PBA password" after trying to swipe my finger three times.

      FreeTech,

How can i start in safe mode when I cannot access anything until i get past the fingerprint reader? Pressing any of the function keys on boot up makes no difference. It immediately goes to the finger print reader screen.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I cannot get through to Medion Tech support either :(

    • Thanks for all of your suggestions Freetech. It looks like I may have to reset the CMOS battery. I have no idea how to do this. I have posted this issue on the medion-aldi forum. Thanks for the link.

At system start up there is no opportunity to press F11 and I also don't see the message "Press [Esc] to continue". The fingerprint reader appears almost immediately after power on. After three unsuccessful tries it asks for a password with the only message on the screen ""Please Type in PBA password".

    • We although have a Medion Akoya notebook.
The fingerprint is asked at pre boot time but it is only accepted after several tries. We deinstalled the vitakey software but we are still asked for the fingerprint.

How can we get rid of the fingerprint security?

Can we easyly reinstall the vitakey software too get access to the fingerprint securtiy?

Can we deinstall this via bios?

How to we get into the bios?
Do we have to press the funktion Key bevor or after the sreen with the fingerprint check?
Do we have to pass the fingerprint test to get into the bios?

    • There is some info that you can reach (some of) the hidden BIOS settings of the Medion by pressing F11 key during boot up.

When you'll be asked for the password, try

      am8888egh
      am8888egc

      or
      am8888eg

Afterwards you'll enter an extented CMOS setup screen where you can make the settings of your choice

if this don't do it,let me know

you will need to start in safemode and use the administrator account to create a new account then restart in normal mode then reinstall the software and reset your passwords from the new account (administrator user) that you created

    • so you are locked out of your bios what i would do is remove the battery and hold the power button for 10 seconds then plug it in and turn it on see what it does.. if that doesn't work then there should be a code or series of keys to press to bypass .. if you cant find any information on that then you will need to pull the laptop apart and remove the cmos battery (THIS IS A LAST RESORT DONT PULL YOUR LAPTOP APART IF YOU DONT KNOW 100% WHAT YOU ARE DOING)
