If your hardware supports WMM (wi-fi media), the box to enable/disable the feature is on the Advanced Wireless page. Click on that in the left column of the D-Link router page. Then click on the Advanced tab. Check the box to enable the WMM feature; it's the third from the bottom.

The next step is to make sure that the WMM feature is enabled on your other hardware. This may be partially enabled in the Wireless driver. (Go to the device manager to check this driver. The Ad Hoc QoS Mode under the Advanced tab lists WMM for some wireless networks.) However, you may also need to enable the QoS Packet Scheduler in the Wireless Network Connection Properties (general settings tab).

What OS is your computer running? What type of wireless adapter is in your computer? If you add a comment with that information, I can provide additional information for modifying the network settings.

I hope this helps.

Hi Cindy, Thank you for taking the time. I am unsure because I cant see WMM or WiFiMedia anywhere. Where is the "Advanced Wireless page" Is my user interface a bit different? Regards Jim.

Which D-Link router do you have? The user interface could be set up differently. I was looking at the interface for the DIR-655. For that router, the Advanced Wireless link is the fifth item from the bottom of the list in the left column after you click on Advanced near the top of the page. It's the seond item after the router model (Setup is first). On a different router (a different manufacturer), the QoS WMM setting is on the Applications and Gaming page from the login page. I hope this helps.

I have the D Link DI-524 It is working great with MACMini Mac OS X Lion 10.7. and Toshiba lapTop. Santa is bringing a iPodTouch. and it is not connecting. hense my problem. Thank you again.

I'm sorry, I didn't see the image that you attached initially. On this model, there is a Gaming Mode option on the Tools > Misc that might be the right item to enable. On some of these routers, you need to update the firmware for the router before enabling the Gaming Mode. However, this router doesn't explicitly offer QoS or WMM, as far I can tell. I wish that I had better news for you. Cindy Wells

I read the model as DI-524. Please add a comment if I misread that detail. Cindy Wells

  • Cindy Wells Nov 08, 2012

The DI-524UP supports QoS (Quality of Service). The DI-524 doesn't. Since WMM is a subset of the 802.11e WLAN QoS standards, this feature isn't available for your router. Unfortunately, to add your iPod Touch, you will need to upgrade your router to a newer model with additional features. I wish that I had better news for you. Cindy Wells

How to enable wireless multimedia

Got this from Apple website:

his applies only to third-party routers. Apple AirPort products do not have a setting to enable or disable WMM.

WMM must be enabled for devices to connect. Disabling WMM on your wireless router can prevent the following Apple products from connecting to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network:

  • iPad
  • iPhone
  • iPod touch
  • Apple TV

If you are unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network on any of these devices, check to ensure that WMM is enabled and configured correctly on your wireless router. If you require additional assistance, please contact your router manufacturer.

Wireless connection keeps dropping after about a day.

I had the same problem (see Jan 09) but I found the solution:
I had trouble with the router resetting from time to time, that was fixed by upgrading to firmware 1.05. But I still had the wireless problem.
For me, disabling 'UPnP' (advanced->advanced network) and disabling turbo G mode (setup->wireless setting) did the trick.
Work great since then, both my laptop and my media center stays connected, going on one month now.
Hope it can helps other.

Using just the VOIP part of a Belkin all in one router??

You will probably need to set it up differently, I do not know the belking router, but normally the VOIP functions only work on the wan port of these routers so you should make the connections as follows:

INET ---> (wan) DLINK (lan) -----> (wan) BELKIN (voip) --> Phone
|--------> Wired Computers
|--- ) ) ) Wi Fi computers

On the DLINK enable DHCP and set a fixed IP for the Belkin router, either by setting the belkin in an IP outside the DHCP pool or setting it from the DHCP server.

This configuration workd well with a DLINK and a Motorola (vonage) router I have.
