My Akai GX-230D operates, but the tape speed is slow on both the 3-3/4 & 7-1/2 speed settings. I've been told there is an interal adjustment for the tape speed, but don't know where/how to adjust it.
Hi,
I give you a link from where the service manual can be downloaded.
On the page 17 of this manual You can find how to adjust tape speed.
Good luck!
Thanks, gylacz
Thank you for the link. Is there a site that explains how to measure the 1000Hz tone? I'd have to purchase a test tape, but I don't have the method to measure the output. I do have access to a rpm measuring device if that's a viable alternative.
Hi, If you had test tape you could measure the 1000Hz output by oscilloscope or a frequency metering device. If you have not or dont want to purchese a test tape i have an idea what to do if I were you: Install to your PC a software which has media editor function. This is equipped in the "Media Jukebox" software which is sharewere but it is usable for a month free. 1000Hz tone can be generated with this and saved to wav or mp3 file. You can borrow another tape deck from a friend and make record. Use this tape with your one, playback this tone and listen to it using loadspeaker during listen to the original 1000Hz of the PC too. Yoo will hear the interference effect and in this way the tape speed can be adjusted to be the two signals equal. Bye
Thanks. I actually went a different direction. I measured the capstan diameter, calculated the circumference, and measured the RPM with a handheld device. It was way off. Using the same manual from above, I insured I had 24 volts at the power supply, and then adjusted the capstan speed until I had the correct RPM's. The sound and tone are good (at least to my ear).
