I need to replace my sata hard drive for my desktop computer,and i was wandering,could i purchase any sata hardrive eg sata,sata2 or does it have to be the exact same harddrive ie model number as the one i already have installed?My computer was also a home built one.thankyou : )

kept trying Asus for your board details but their site was down,and also need to know socket type, but you may need to upgrade your bios to support large drives. You can find the motherboard support site here:- http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Make sure it is connected properly.
Then go to Disk Management by typing "diskmgmt.msc" in the Run window.
Then check in Disk Management if there is any unassigned or any uninitialised partition there.
If you find one, right click on it and then select either "Format" or "Initialise".

Files copy errors during the XP installation process are often an indication of BAD RAM.
If you have dual RAM modules, try install with 1 memory module installed

Normally when u purchase the SATA DVDRW, they also provides u the SATA data cable...
Installation is very simple, just plug the data cable and power cable, power on your pc. That's all.

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps
