Are you saying you are now locked out of your router, or the wireless security setting will not change? When you press the reset button are you holding it in for about 10 seconds? If so it should go back to factory settings and a local ip address of 192.168.1.1, to log into the router there should be no username and admin as the password if it went back to factory settings. Have you upgraded the bios on this router? I would start there first, this could be a bug in the software.

Can't get a link when trying to turn a Netgear router WGR614v8 into access point with a xfinity SMCD3GNV as the host router.

Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to
http://www.routerlogin.net/ or http://www.routerlogin.com./
Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
If you cannot log into your router:
Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults.
however, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.
If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection.
Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and Clicking Apply.
If there is a small hole in the front or back of the router push a hair pin in to reset to factory settings.

Forgot password and user name and i never had put a emial

default password is password

Looking for the NETGEAR WNR1000 default password?

You probably have little reason to access your router on a regular basis so don't feel too bad

f you've forgotten the WNR1000 default password.

However, when you're troubleshooting a network problem and need to get in to the device,

the WNR1000 default password suddenly becomes very important.

For most versions of the NETGEAR WNR1000, the default password is password. As with most passwords,

the WNR1000 default password is case sensitive

Be sure to change the default router password on your WNR1000 to something more secure as soon as you're in.

Then use a free password manager so you'll never forget your new WNR1000 password

hope this helps

How to change wifi name in router

You'll need to log onto your router, your manual should give you the address. I just type router into my browser
http://www.routerlogin.net/

Once logged in, you can change name, password & other information about security and such.

If you haven't set your user name/password, you'll find it in the owners manual. This is usually, "admin" for user name, and "password" for the password in some netgear models. Your manual should tell you.

Good luck.

Cannot connect to Wireless with my Linksys WRT120N Router.

If you have 2 devices not be able to connect to it suddenly, then it is probably the router that changed, as opposed to it being the 2 devices changing at the same time. Sometimes wireless routers just go bad like that.Try a factory reset, and then set the appropriate settings back to where you need them. If that doesn't help, you likely need a new one.

How do i change my router name

Hi,
First you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer) by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is usually 192.168.1.1 (also written at the back of the router)
Then, press Enter. A login screen will appear. Leave the User name field blank. The
first time you open the Web-based utility, use the default password admin. (You can set a new password from the Administration tab's Management screen.) Click OK to continue
and lookup for the options to do the following (under Basic Setup): -
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password (unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password admin or password.)
The SSID is the network name shared among all points in a wireless network. The SSID must be identical for all devices in the wireless network. It is case-sensitive and must not exceed 32 characters (use any of the characters on the keyboard). Make sure this setting is the same for all points in your wireless network. For added security, you should change the default SSID (linksys) to a unique name. Below is the snapshot of the required option
creativetech_78.jpg
(The above step would prevent unauthorized access to your router)
You may wish to refer to the Linksys WRT160N User Guide
(Page 7 Login details, Page 13 Router Name)

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I was setting my configuration for my wireless modem to my internet modem using my disc I keyed in a wrong username and password how can I change it to the correct one please?

You can access the router through web interface and configure it. All you have to do is connect the router. Follow the steps given below: -
First you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer) by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (written at the back of router) depending upon the make/ model of your router
(unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password admin OR password.) and lookup for the security options to do the following: -

Next step is to secure it:
1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Settings" 2.Under "Security Options", select your desired encryption method (preferably WPA2-PSK)
3.Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
4. Click Apply
Also make the following changes (recommended): -
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password (unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password admin OR password.)
(The above step would prevent unauthorized access to your router)

Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet.

How to set up an wireless password on my linksys? please help. thanks

Hi there.

Type this into your web browser: http://192.168.1.1

It will bring you to the Linksys setup page.

A window will pop up prompting you for a username and password to access the configuration page for your router. Enter "admin" (without quotes) for both the username and password.

From there you can change your router name if you feel like it.

click on the Wireless tab at the top of the settings screen. Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from the default value to something unique (you can use the same name you set as your Router Name in the previous step. Then Disable the Wireless SSID Broadcast option and click Save Settings.

Now click on the Wireless Security subsection at the top of the page. In order to password protect your wireless network first use the Security Mode dropdown box to select WEP and then from the WEP Security dropdown box select 128 bits 26 hex digits. Choose a password between 6 and 8 characters and type it into the Passphrase box. Then click Generate. Finally click Save Settings.

How to get back my account if it is compromised?

Hi,
If the router is not allowing you administrator access rights, you can always reset the router to factory default setting by pushing the reset button on the back of the router. You will see a pinhole on the back and you will need something small and pointed to press it. Press and hold it for 15-20 seconds to reset your router to factory.
Please be reminded that you will lose all current settings for your router including wireless password and setting. You have to know the default username and password too so you can access the setup page for your router to re-setup your preferred settings.
Click here for some info on how to know your router's IP address.
Hope this helps.
