Question about Acer Aspire One D257 Netbook

Audio service refuses to start

After installing a hard drive I had from another laptop,, I can't get the "audio service" to start. The little speaker icon on the taskbar had a red X thru it I started the service and all the dependencies (services.msc) .. to no avail. The device manager says the 'device is working properly' but there's no sound.. any ideas?

um... no, didn't format anything. I just grabbed an old HD from my pieces and parts drawer and stuck it in the Acer. I know, I know.. probably not the smartest move but after manually installing some devices into the new-ish, but very confused harddrive, ( I guess because it thought it was still in a HP system) everything was going okay until the audio device. However, after a few hours of fiddling with settings (and coming pretty close to drop kicking the acer out the back door), I solved the problem. There is a service called POWER that needed to be enabled. Never saw it mentioned in a list of dependencies or anywhere else for that matter. I just happened upon it when I was making my way down the list of services. Thanls for your reply

The obvious, is it muted? NO. Disable device in Device Manager, enable device, no change, uninstall audio device, reboot, I don't know your OS, your OS should automaticly ID the audio an add driver. If it does not go to Acer website a download audio driver for your OS. Install manually. You stated,"after installing a hard drive I had from another laptop" . The Harddrive you installed, did you format it and install into this laptop and clone the drive? I am a bit confused by the statment, "after installing a hard drive I had from another laptop"?

SOURCE: Laptop won't boot.

If it used to start up OK, then the hard drive is probably broken and needs to be replaced.

If you're adding a new hard drive, it may need to be partitioned and formatted. Insert your Windows CD, and start up off that, and run the Windows setup. It will format and partition the drive for you.

SOURCE: I have been having trouble

Click on this link (Click Here) and download and installed the program available on the page i.e. Handy Uninstaller, and run the program, look for installed Realtek through the program (you'll be able to do that) and uninstall them. If it's not possible, remove them from the lists. Now open My Computer, then C:, and All Programs and delete the "Realtek" folder. Restart your computer and try again.

But there's something I don't see on any of the posts, is Microsoft UAA bus driver installed or not?

Please update.
Thanks and Good luck.

I'm trying to increase hard disk space on a Dell

The Dell Inspiron 1100 is a laptop whereas the Dell Dimension 2400 is a desktop pc.

The hard drives are incompatible because they are a different size, plus the Inspiron only supports one hard drive so you can't install a slave device. The only way to increase hard disk space is to buy a large capacity internal IDE laptop drive or an external hard drive.

Disk read error

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Hello, i have sony vaio VPCEB46FG laptop & i have

You're getting what's known as the 'blue screen of death' as some may call it.
This happens for various reasons, but usually occurs when Windows encounters a conflict with a hardware component in your laptop. When you try to install XP, are you doing so as a secondary operating system (dual OS boot) or are you trying to install it over Windows 7?
If you are installing XP over Windows 7, try doing a full format during setup instead of the usual quick setup. This may take some time, possibly requiring you to format the hard drive overnight but it may well solve any 'blue screen' issues you're experiencing.

Let me know if I can assist any further.

Best wishes,

I received a toshiba update. I did a diagnostic check. It states hard drive fail. Sometimes my laptop fans make a noice. What can I do?

For starters you need to start backing up everything you want to keep. Photos, music, files, passwords, etc... Saving it all to an external hard drive is the simplest way to do this especially if you have a lot of stuff. You can also use thumb drives or burn it to DVD's if you want. Your computer is telling you that it's about to **** out on you. Once you get all your files backed up, you'll need a new (internal) hard drive for the computer. Once it's in, pop in your Windows install disc & follow the prompts. Keep in mind that you'll need to put in the windows disc before you shut the computer off to change the hard drive, this way after you've installed the hard drive and start back up, the windows installer will run.
