Recently my TV started turning itself off. ANd we can't turn it on again for an hour or more. We had someone come and look at it and he wanted to charge us $250 to take out some sort of plate with a microchip or something and then hd' bring it back the next day and install it again. He said with this model it has done this before and it usually happens when the tv gets moved around a lot (example: it happened once before when we moved from out of state and we still had a warranty on it and got it fixed. Then a year later we installed a new cable system and the tv had to get moved and again just a few weeks ago we installed an XBOX).

Re: TV turns itself off
If you can solder i can help you fix it yourself ! On Deflection board there is 3 capacitors cp150 2200uf 16v if it is puffed up on top it is Bad other 2 220uf 35v cp114,cp120 they are green with gold writing on them Deflection board is First board to left on bottom/ board to right is SSB board this has your turners on it. Also CK second ribbon connector that connects from deflection to SSb board. Id say its Bad Capacitors on deflection board. Thats why set takes time to come back on it will finally get to where it will not come on.

4 times blinking means Fan stopped, power is not supplied on Fan 1, Fan 2 Fan 3 and at Fan 4. Or Fan connector is not attached securely. Cleaning these fans by using a vacuum cleaner can also solve your problem. Sometimes these fans are clogged by dust.
Go to website Encompass Electronics.com type in your model number it will list part and part number ,you can also look for Lamp on E-Bay Encompass 1-800-638-3328 Also ck Color Wheel remove lamp take a flash light to watch when you turn TV on see if the color wheel is turning if it is defective set will shut OFF. Check the "Sleep Timer" settings. If set to 45 minutes then TV would automatically turn itself off 45 minutes from being turned on. The variance in the "on" times is due to the TV turning itself off after not getting a signal from the remote for fifteen minutes.
Sony TVs come with a one year warranty on parts and labor. Call Sony at 1-800-222-SONY They will find a local company to service this product.
These TVs have a self-diagnostic screen that a tech can access to help solve the problem. Your problem could be any number of things including the fan(s) stopping, the ballast board failing, Q-box issue or none of the above.
I have seen this symptom a lot recently. There is a 9 volt regulator on the small signal board, and the output voltage on this IC has dropped down to about 8 volts, which causes that symptom. Replacing that regulator should cure your problem, and when I make a housecall for a set like that I charge $150, although I hear that the average service center charges a lot more than that. I also believe that it is never a good idea to leave a projection TV on all the time, so whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about.
