Question about Belkin N1 Vision Wireless Router

N1 Vision won't boot up...

I got this Wireless Router since Feb 2008 with no mayor issues so far... it worked fine.
Then, out of the blue, the re-star bar goes to aprox. 20% and re-star on a permanent loop..
If use the re-star botton on the back after 10 seconds, shows this message "download mode..." and freezes..
I have tryed everything and nothing seems to work..
I check on the web and other people has gotten the same problem but nobody seem to have a solution..
Unfortunately I live in Latin America iand no tech support avaliable..
Any advise on how to solve this problem..??
Have you heard of this issue before..??
Thanks in advance for any comments on this problem....

    Hello acd..

    Thanks for your prompt reply...

However, as I mentioned in my post the main problem is that is not possible to reset my router because when I use the reset button in the back of the device, I got a message on the N1 Vision screen "download mode....." and then nothing happens and the router freezes..

Is there anything else that I can try...???

The real problem is that the reset button wouldn't perform as it supposed to be.. so the whole procedure is not possible to apply..

    Thanks anyway...

    Thanks againg acdr....

I tryed that before and nothing happened.. even tryed on another PC...

To be honest, I think that the problem is on the hardware, because everybody who I consuted with on this event, assume that pressing the reset button will bring the router to the factory setting, and that's the root of the problem ..the darn reset botton do not take it to the "factory setings" because the router enters the "download mode..." instead..

As I understand now after receiving information from Belkin support technitians, it is normal to get this "download mode ..." message on the router screen after pressing the reset button for more than 10 seconds..?? In other words I guess the only real solution would be to try and ask for a replacement but as long as I am living in Latin America and bought it in the States I guess I am screwed.. (pardon the language)..

Thanks againg for your advise anyway...

I searched for solution for some hours and find only questions, no usable answer.

So I had to start debugging myself.

Router just stopped working one day by itself.

On boot the progress bar goes about 20% and hangs forever.

Screen backlight is wobbling a little.

What I did:

I cracked the router open and found that four of the capacitors were ballooned:

I changed the capacitors(470mF 6,3v or higher - about 1eur total sum.) and the router booted up once as new. Next time same problem - it boots on 20% and hangs.

That was the time I noticed that the screen was wobbling and I tested the router with another power adapter and voila - problem was finally fixed.

So, to fix the problem:

  1. Try with another power adapter.
  2. If that does not help, crack the router open and change those ballooned capacitors:

This is how to crack it open..Behind the sticker there are two screws:

    Dear Kalev Bro.

I opened my Belkin N1 Vision v1021UK model and replaced ballooned capacitors. Also I changed the power adapter but still I am facing the same issue.
My question is to you that please let me what firmware is in your router? Because mine firmware is 1.00.15 lots of people discuss some other websites about 1.00.15 is not stable. Please try to help me out. :(

How many pc's, laptop's & printer's can i link up to belkin n1 vision wireless router model f5d8232-4

You can uplink a fairly good number of PCs or laptops with Belkin N1 as it supports high bandwidth. Keep in mind that upon adding every new PC, the overall bandwidth for the other PCs is reduced. If the PCs/ laptops do not require much bandwidth, you can connect / add more PCs to the network.
Generally, I have uplinked upto 10-15 clients to one router and the network worked just fine. It all depends upon the network environment and the bandwidth usage by each client PC. If the PCs are using just email and simple internet browsing (and remain idle for most of the time), you can add more clients to your network as not all the systems consume network resources at the same time.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Slower throughput having gone to talk talk

That is there way of saying they don't want to support that router or don;t want to accept their network is having trouble. If you do get another router and still have the same problems then they have no excuses.
