Question about Olympus SP-510 UZ Digital Camera

1 Answer

Picture error I have an Olympus SP-51OUZ camera. Nearly every photo I take, when reviewed, comes up with 'picture error' and a big warning exclamation mark (in red on a blue background). Only about 1 in 20 photos taken are ok. I have formatted the card but it still happens. When I used the card on my laptop it scanned it & said there were no problems with it. Obviously it's a nightmare because I have to review every single photo to check it has come out! Please help! Rachel

If you have a combo media-reader, put the xD card in that and connect it to computer. Copy all images through the reader. Then format the xD card. Now it should work okay.

Using windows vista and not able to load pics into computer from Olympus sp-51ouz have tried reloading original disc do you have updates as camera is about 7 yrs old

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa.

Camera (Olympus SP500-uz) turns on, but shutter button and zoom lever don't work

Make sure you have the switch turned to "take picture (camera)" instead of "reveiw photos (green triagle)". On this one, i think it is a wheel on the top of the camera.

Only thing I can think of...

Hey my Olympus 230 digital camera seems to have deleted my photos, a message appeared on the camera "picture error", just wondering how I can get them back??

If you are using a memory card, take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that are available to help you recover your photos. This blog article reviews and outlines several of the better ones.
All the download links listed in the article are through CNET, primarily to verify that these are malware free software, and to give you a chance to read user reviews on the software before downloading.

What does PICTURE ERROR mean? not in manual nor on line

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card as the card has become corrupted. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Ok button - right arrow to Mode Menu - down arrow to Card tab - right arrow to card setup - right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the picture error message and the card can be used again.

I recently got my memory card developed at Wal-Mart and ever since I got the camera back home there is a big exclamation mark on the screen when I try to turn on the camera. I know this means card error....

Try formatting your card:

1- Press erase button and flash mode button on top of camera at the same time.
2- When YES/NO confirmation screen appears, press OK/SHUTTER button.
3- When formatting is finished, the exclamation mark will go away. Please note that all pictures on card will be erased.

Good luck!

Picture error

I would recheck all of my settings on the camera. Go to the menu and check everything one by one. Your card may be damaged also. Do you have another card to try? Do you have your manual? If not you can to to www.olympus.com to download a new manual specifically for your camera and it may address this issue. Good luck.
