Hi there is a small transparent stripe inside the printer maybe is dirty .

In the maintenance program that comes with the printer there should be an option to align the nozzles. You should run it a few times to assure the problem is corrected.

I have a Canon mx432 that was new, but gave me a 5100 message that I couldn't clear. I cleaned the transparent belt that guides the print cartridges, and now it works great. I spent hours on it until I cleaned that strip - - nothing else worked

Chris Bell, thanks for your solution. My Canon MX432 has been blurry for a week. No amount of print head aligning / cleaning / rebooting was going to fix it. I cleaned the "timing strip" as you've indicated and voila! Problem solved.
