SOURCE: Wharfedale DS-A243 HDMI Upscaler wont play HD DVD

Hi, sorry to have break it to you but your self diagnosis was correct! It is a 'normal' DVD player that upscales and will NOT play HD discs.

SOURCE: I want to unlock my Wharfedale DS-A423 Upscaling

Some players are harder than others to do this but you may want to try here or here
Comments:
Toshiba's and JVC's are the harder ones to do

I use a Phillips myself as it is not only cheaper but has much more going for it than many of the higher end units. i throw anything at it and it just plays

The older the unit that harder it is to do the region free thing with.
I let my EX have the panasonic (big grin)

If you cant find a fix then look at the codes available for cheaper brands and how easy it is to do it before you purchase one.

Just a thought.

HD image format, is it possible?

Hi.

Yes, it is possible but it is not worth, and the result will not be true HD.

To get HD format you need to go through a process called upscaling. This can be done connecting the DVD player output to an upscaling device, similar to the ones that are commonly used for game consoles.

The result will be a standard definition picture where each point is traduced into 4 or more points in the HD output.

In no way you can get true HD out of a DVD, simply because the smaller points with the higher definition do not exist in the original DVD.

The upscaling device will cost from $30 to $80, and the result will not be true high definition. Considering that today you can buy a basic BRD player from about $80, buying an upscaler is definitively not worth.

This is a better solution, true HD and built in upscaling for your old DVD: Sony BDP-S360

Polaroid FLU-2632 LCD TV full HD 2 HDMI problem

You could try pressing the source button on the remote to see if that brings it up.

Also the TV may have got itself in a muddle. There will be a way to reset it to factory setting. If you can get into the TV's setup menu there ought to be an option buried somewhere to do that.

My player seems not able to upscale the signal from my antennea and DVDs

Upscaling will only occur when playing DVDs. You have to use an HDMI connection from the DVD player to the tv. For upscaling of DVD's you will also have to setup the upscaling resolution in the DVD player's setup menu. Be sure to set the resolution to one that your tv will support.

If your tv does not have a HDMI input, then you will not be able to use the upscaling feature.

Upscaling will not occur on antenna signals. This is not possible because the hardware (inside DVD player) is only meant to upscale DVD video.

Again, to upscale DVDs ONLY, you will have to have an HDMI cable going from DVD player to TV, set up your upscaling options on your DVD setup menu and have a TV that has a HDMI input and is capable of recieving the upscaled resolution you have set your DVD player to.

If you have any further question regarding this, let me know!

Does not play multichannel audio (5.1) input through optical digital audio

Hi try this.

in the dvd player make sure you just leave it default (bitstream) but in the home theater receiver don't select 5.1 b/c that will only give you a virtual 5.1 not a true 5.1. In fact don't select any sound field at all just select dolby digital or dts depending on the source of the movie then you should be ok.

The only other problem i can see is that hdmi sends both the sound and picture to the tv. You will need to see if there's a function on the dvd player to only send the picture via hdmi and the sound via the optical out of the dvd player.

good luck
