I am getting the PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED message, but the IE setttings are correct. I have a strong wireless signal from my wireless Linksys router to the laptop.....just no browsing

I also have connection problems of the same exact nature as described. i'm picking up strong signals for a connection, but my browser won't open, and on the bottom right corner of my screen the icon for the connection has a red line through it. neither i nor any of my friends or family have been able to figure out the problem.

You dont have to run any wizard if your computer is already connected to the internet.

When you get the "Page cannot be displayed" have you tried typing another web site address just to make sure its not a problem with the website?

Also if you have a firewall, try turning is off before you connect to make sure its not affecting the connection.

You will have to run the home or office wizard on your existing connection to start using internet. You can activate the wizard through the network connection icon in control panel. There inside the network connection window on left side, u can see the link to it. Follow the steps. Ignore disconnected hardware if any. Do rate my reply... Thanx n regards

My computer says its connect to my wireless network yet I can't access the internet!

Try resetting your router first off. Then repair your connection by right-clicking on the connection. You may have a sketchy router or one that could benefit from a firmware upgrade. I would get into the router's homepage and check the settings for your connection, then make sure your getting IP addresses and DNS addresses from your ISP.

Toshiba Satellite ethernet port disappeared...

I think you have answered your own problem, your wireless has possibly been zapped.
To test your ethernet adapter on your laptop connect it to a network hub, check the hub and see if you have a link light on the hub and or laptop..
To test your wireless router, connect it to a known working computer with a network card and check the router configuration, using the browser, if you cannot access it then its zapped.

Is my internal wifi card an antique?

It is also possible that you have set a security connection on your computer and the new router is not set to the same security settings. If they don't match, you will not connect...nor will anyone trying to 'steal' your signal.

Wi -Fi usage in my laptop

Try a third time (every time I go into my own network places for netgear I loose this fixya page -sorry watch for duplication).

Go into "start menu" then click on "my network places" then click on anything that says "netgear router" if its there, click on this and it should bring you to your password for netgear, click this with your password and this should bring you to your main page of your Netgear Router software programing.
Click on "connection status" if it says "success" under "negotiation" then its working OK. If you don't get "succes" then you have problems and I recommend you ring the Netgear service number written in your instruction papers in your old modem/router box they are usually based in Malaysia and very helpful.
Best wishes,

Could be the wireless router acting up. I have that problem too, although not every time I connect. I unplug the router and plug it in again and I'm good to go. Good luck!
