All fuses are good. Brake switch is releasing shifter and allowing me to get out of park so my assumption is brake switch is ok. I feel it is alarm related and wondering if there is a brake light relay? Where it is located and what position since owner manual does not identify any relays. help please!

You need to test the brake light switch, it is above the brake pedal and it is actuated by the brake pedal arm. Press the brake, the switch connector should show 12 volts on both sides, if not the wiring connector is defective or the switch is defective. Below is a diagram of a typical brake switch which is #4 in diagram.

SOURCE: no brake lights of blinkers 1990 dodge dynasty

While not likely, it is possible that the light bulbs in both sides are have bad filaments. Turn on ignition key (but don't start engine). Then turn on parking lamps (first detent or "click" on headlamp switch). Walk around car and look for illumination on front parking lamps and rear tail lights. Turn on the right turn signal. Are those (right hand) lamps now changing brilliance? Try the left turn signal in the same manner. Are those (left hand) front and rear lights changing briiliance? Take note of any positions that did NOT change briliance when the turn signals were activated. If NONE changed briliance, you either have a bunch of bad bulbs (unlikely) or a bad flasher (more likely) or a bad turn signal switch (most likely) or perhaps wiring problems (possible if the car has been in a collision or has been "worked on" by some "non-expert" mechanic). Check the action of the emergency flasher control switch located on the steering column (facing up). Pushing it in (down) should result in the button going to two different heights alternately (low, high, low, high). You could just have bad flashers or corroded flasher contacts! Good luck!

SOURCE: 99 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 / nothing but parking lights,no flashers or brake lights......

I found the problem on my Dodge Ram van.. The button for the hazard lights was bad.. I tuned on the hazard lights and only had one side, so i jiggled it and the other side came on. Then I pushed in the hazard button to turn them off and proceeded to check the brake lights, the still did not work so I again jiggled the hazard button and whaaalaaa the brake lights would flicker on and off.. I have a piece of cardboard pushing the button to the side to hold pressure on it keeping my brake light connection until I can get me a new hazzard switch.. Hope this helps..

SOURCE: 03 Ram 1500 E-Brake light flashing

its possible the switch on the e/brake unit broke, take a flashlight and locate a single/double wire that goes to the e/brake assembly (this is the piece you depress with your left foot) and look to see if the wire is broken or the switch the wire goes to is broken.

SOURCE: 2001 Dodge Durango, headlights flicker

I had a similar problem on my 2001 Caravan. Turned out to be a loose connection between the frame control module and the fuse box. I unscrewed the frame/front control module from the fuse box and bent the tabs slightly to make better contact. Then tighten down the module securley. Need star driver to loosen screws

  • The shift interlock system does not release/lock correctly
  • Circuitry.

Unable to take out of park position

Do the brake light work? No brake lights and it won't shift out of park. Check your fuses and check for loose wires. Check your brake light switch. If that has failed, you won't be able to get out of park. The other one if the shift lock solenoid which is in the shifter assembly. The brake shift interlock switch prevents the car being shifted from park unless the brake pedal is depressed. Try to apply power/ground to the proper wires & see if it will activate.. If it does, then the problem is between the brake light switch & that solenoid. Could be the wires or the switch.Make sure the shifter cable is still held down in place at the shifter assembly & under the hood. It is the interlock switch that you hear/feel clicking. It is for the prior generation but may still apply.

Good Luck and hopefully you soon will be on the road again...;-)

Hi , i have a problem with my automatic acura rsx 2002 , my gear shifter won't unlock from park , engine starts fine but when i step on the brake pedal then i also realese the hand break the shifter just...

This may be caused by a bad brake light switch or fuse, have someone check and see if the brake lights are coming on, the shifter release works on the brake switch, this is to make sure you have your foot on the brake before shifting out of park, if the brake lights are not working then thats the problem, start by check all the fuses, if the fuses are good then i would say you have a bad brake light switch, this switch is located on the brake pedal bracket, if you follow the pedal up to the top will will see a switch that the pedal pushes in when its released and allows it to pop out when the pedal is pushed, this switch most of the time is the problem, good day,

My 2005 hyundai accent wont shift out of park unless i use the shift lock override. any advice?

on most cars when u step on the brake pedal youll hear a "click" near the center console which is the shift solenoid releasing the "lock" on the floor shifter allowing the shifter to come out of park.check to make sure all the fuses are good and check the brake lite switch(es) and wiringfrom brake lite switch to shifter solenoid.a wiring diagram always helps.
