Question about Sewing Machines

Bernina 830 fabric not feeding through

SO, my machine has a very nice stitch and sometimes feeds through and sometimes just sits in place with motor revving. I lifted up the feeddogs, and doesnt change it and lowered them and it feeds through with a push to the wheel...what is the deal? I finished several projects with a perfect stitch but had to nudge occasionally after stopping...

Your clue is "just sits with the motor revving." your motor belt is about shot. If an internal motor... take it in to replace BOTH the motor and timing belts, might as well have it serviced and adjusted too while the repair person is in there.

Have you tried the feed dog switch? If it hasn't been used for several years, a trip to a service man would do it the world of good, and he would be able to fix your problem too.

SOURCE: Bernina 1008 feed dog problem.

Your machine needs oiling. The feeddogs are stuck. Could be in several places. You would have to remove the back and side covers to get to what needs cleaning and oiling. Especially behind that knob. Just removing the covers is a job so I can't recommend you do this unless your trained. But you can try. Don't forget the screws beneith the machine. But really, there is too much behind the handwheel for a novice to deal with. Maybe see if you can just let some sewing machine oil just run down behind the feedog knob and work it alot.
Good luck.

SOURCE: Brother XL-6562 sewing machine is not feeding fabric through properly

Oil might help but it sounds like you don't have enough pressure on the foot. You can take the casing off where the light is and there is a screw back there that controls the tension on the pressure foot. It is not meant to be changed by anyone but a professional. I've changed the tension but it wasn't easy. If you are still interested let me know and I will try to explain.

Bernina artista 200, how do i control the feed dogs?

Not sure what you are asking. The stitch length will determine how far the feed dogs travel (thus pulling the fabric) to create each stitch. There is also the foot (or knee) control that determines the speed that the machine runs.

The page 21 of the manual has that information:

I'm having trouble starting the stitching on my bernina 765 when sewing a 1/4 inch seam. I am using the patchwork foot and have tried the differential feed option which doesn't seem to help

Guess I'm confused as I thought differential feed was available on a serger but this appears to be a sewing machine. If you are having trouble beginning stitching, try using a piece of scrap fabric as a starter piece. Just begin your stitch in the middle of the scrap of fabric and slip the quilt fabric up to the scrap's edge and continue stitching from the scrap onto the quilt fabric.

Where is the feed dog lever on my bernina record 830 sewing machine

On the Bernina 830 Record (older mechanical model), it is usually the very bottom knob on the right side (directly below the Stitch Length Lever). It should turn right or left about a quarter turn to switch between feed dogs up or down. If the knob is frozen, then it has seized due to old dried oil (a common occurrence with older mechanical machines that have not been serviced regularly). Stuck feed dogs, stitch selectors, buttonhole knobs, and the handwheel are some of the most frequent victims of seizure. However, with lots of patience, time, fresh good quality sewing machine oil or liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube, elbow grease and a handheld hairdryer, these issues can usually be successfully addressed.

Feed dog issues, my Bernina 1260 will not reverse and stitching length is erratic.

Take off your needle plate and clean your feed dogs. If the feed dogs get too much lint built up, they won't feed the fabric consistently.

What causes a Bernina 830 sewing machine o runn nicly until you roll the wheel back to the rear and it squeels....im thinking the clutch is the problem

Um, not sure I understand the problem, however, it is recommended to never turn the handwheel backward. Always, turn it forward.

If it is an 830 Record, it may need a thorough cleaning and oiling. Open the top, the left side, and remove the free arm cover and apply 1-2 drops of fresh good quality sewing machine oil every place where metal rubs metal. Never oil the belts, plastic, or anything non-metal. Gently rock the handwheel and watch where things move and apply a couple drops of oil. Don't forget the feed dog mechanism and the levers & dials. Also get the needle bar and the needle position control on the needlebar. You can look around for little oil ports. There are several near the cams that are activated by the zig-zag control and stitch selector. Also several on the knuckles on the take-up lever, an important one in the back of the feed dogs next to the outer case, etc. There may be one on the back of the machine above the motor.

Be sure to run the machine on scrap fabric and clean up any excess oil before sewing on a project.

If it continues to squeal, it could be one of the belts. You might check to see if they are frayed, worn, or loose.

Feed dogs pushing fabric in reverse

Check that the quick reverse button is not jammed-in, first. If not, check a pattern that uses forward and backward feed, such as the honeycomb stitch and check if varying the stitch length makes any difference - if its still only feeding in a reverse direction, you're probably going to have to get it checked-out by a Bernina service agent, because this could be one of a number of problems, ranging from the simplest - the plug carrying the wiring to the stitch length stepper motor might have dropped-off the main 'S'-print control board - to the worst - the main control board might be faulty. The stepper motor could also be faulty or, indeed, there might be a jammed stitch-length mechanism in the free-arm, if it hasn't been serviced for a while. Good Luck

Bernina 1130 feed dogs won't feed fabric

On a Bernina 1130 the power on-off knob and the feed dog raise and lower knob look similar and are next to each other on the end of the machine, making it easy to lower the dog assembly entirely, without realizing it. Make sure you didn't accidentally lower the entire feed dog assembly by turning the feed dog knob: you can tell as you turn it if the dogs are up or down. On the Bernina 1130 the knob, like the power should be in the horizontal position to be working both feed and power.

Fabric doesn't advance

Have you checked your feed dog position? The fabric will not advance if the feed dogs are in the down position. For the machines which don't have the raise/lower feed dog capability, there is a plate that covers the feed dogs and must be removed to advance the fabric when sewing.
