Keyboard issues and answers: A problem that is more common than most people think is an issue with buttons on the control keyboards of modern TV sets. Recently for whatever reason I have seen more questions about this so I have composed this answer and solution for these kinds of problems. It can be any button on the set-channel up/down or volume up down-you name it. The symptoms are the same: channel will scan up or down and will not stop-remote control has no effect on this---It can be channel, volume, or even input or menu if the set has those up front or on the side of the set. All these push controls have something in common-beneath each is a tiny momentary push switch-when pushed with the plastic button it performs a specific task (vol up or down etc.). What happens is the afflicted switch beneath the plastic button is bad-when released it is supposed to stop its function but does not. Keyboard or button controlled features have PRIORITY over the remote control, hence the remote will not stop this from happening. Both the remote and the keyboard go to the microprocessor in the se t but the keyboard is first in line. How to resolve this issue? Someone needs to get at the tiny pc board with the buttons and locate the one associated with the issue (ie sound or channel etc) and unsolder that switch from the board-usually just two pins (may be more for mounting only purposes) and then see if set does not have the issue with switch out of the circuit. For the TECH minded with the board out test here the switches with a ohm meter set to high resistance-any reading with button not pressed means a bad switch-seen ones that read 5,000 plus ohms-it may be necessary to unsolder more than one switch to locate the offender here but an open reading with switch not pressed is the rule. I have taken the time to compose this answer as some do not understand what is happening in these types of situations---No magic wand or smoke and mirrors here-have to disable the offending switch to know. The beauty (in my view) of this kind of problem is if found, you really do not have to replace any part-just operate the set with the remote with one button that no longer functions on the set itself-who could ask for more? Menus pops up

The menu button on the TV itself is bad and must be replaced ( or removed ). Alternatively the whole front button assembly can be disconnected. Just follow the wire back to the main chassis and unplug it.

MENU SCREEN POPS UP, TV CHANGES CHANNELS, TURNS SOUND DOWN

Yes. Its probably a stuck button on the TV's front panel. Try pushing or wiggling each button on the panel. It could be the channel up/down buttons or volume up/down, menu, etc.

When there is a button that is making slight contact, it keeps the microprocessor busy attending to the command its erroneously receiving from the offending button and may not allow other functions to work when this occurs.

It doesn't matter which button is stuck, any of the symptoms you describe can happen.
