My compressor seems to not work or come on after it cools the freezer and fridge and goes into the defrost cycle. I replaced the starter relay and overload and it worked but after the defrost cycle the compressor doesn't come back on with all the other fans and motors and starts to warm up inside and everything melts again

I couldn't tremember how to rewire the starter relay and overload but quickly noticed and electric diagram on the back of the fridge, i wired it bakc uop and it ran fine from 11pm Tuesday night until 11 am Wed Nov 7th morning. It goes into defrost mode but fails to start the compressor to continue the cold cycle and just stays warm inside.

I bet the refrigerator is getting stuck in the defrost mode. I have seen this soooo many times. The timer is located on the front, bottom right side behind the kickplate. Replace that and all should be good. Here is the part to order.http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic... The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

Thanks Mr. Roth, I thought this originally but with the clicking noises I heard I thought it was the relay since I had read so many other posts about it. I will try this remedy and get back to you.

One question though would the defrost timer prevent the Compressor from starting again just because it(defrost timer) is defective? I mean after tthe cycle starts back up all the motors and fans work I feel airflow although it is a little less in the fridge than the freezer.

  • Richard Roth
    Richard Roth Nov 07, 2012

Yes, the compressor is cut off to allow for the defrost cycle. If the compressor is running, it would over power the defrost heater.

    daxeboy932 Nov 11, 2012

Ok MR. Roth i originally believed the starter realy and overload were bad because they would not restart the compressor after the defrost cycle after 8 hours of cooling. I replaced both as well as the defost timer. Now I can't get the compressor to start, everything else works in the fridge lights, evap fan, condenser fan, before I could unplug it for a few hours plug it back in and then it would cool for a few hours before hitting defrost cycle but nothing now. Do you think it would be the capacitor? or is my Compressor just shot? Just can't understand why it would work at all if it was bad.

The Fridge is an Amana model #BX21VW it is 10 years old and was my parents but they keep everything in great shape so didn't think it would go bad the 1st day I installed into my house

With the unit plugged in, turn the defrost timer til it clicks and see if the compressor starts.

Here is a video to show you how to test the compressor. If this test out, I would change the run capacitor. Other tan that, it should run. Here is the run capacitor if you want to change it out. http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic...

It didn't start, I will borrow a multi meter from my Dad tomorrow to test the compressor. everything else started when i turned the defrost knob but the compressor. Not 12 hours ago it was pushing cold air out of there, driving me nuts!

WATER SPLASHING IN FREEZER AT ICEMAKER
THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP
AGAINST THE FILL RESERVOIR CAUSING A PARTIAL BLOCKAGE
OR BECOME CLOGGED WITH ICE.
REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK
TEMP IN FREEZER. IF TEMP IS BELOW 0 DEGREES, THATS

2005 starter wiring diagrams from ignition switch to starter soliniod

The ignition switch does not go to the starter solenoid . Pin 87 at the starter relay sends B+ voltage to the starter relay . Do you know what a starter relay is an how it works ? The ignition switch is an input to the PCM - engine computer . When the PCM sees this B+ voltage from the switch it energizes the starter relay sending B+ voltage to the starter solenoid . http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams !

Intermittante humming noise lasting 10 to 15 seconds. problem may go away and return days later. have changed out the capacitor relay starter already

:
Hi!
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
It does a lot of clicking (trying to start over and over again)
If thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
I use part no ERP410 POWER START RELAY, CAPACITOR AND OVERLOAD all in one. (110 v)

Got a BX21VW fridge. Stopped cooling, both sections, upper and lower are not cooling. Fans are circulating. No ice build up. Checked thermostat in freezer, it was ice cold from being in a working freezer,...

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

I have an Amana BX21VW refrigerator and both the freezer and refrigerator stopped cooling. The fan is still going and there is power, but no cooling of any kind. What is going on?

Hi!!

Check

Temp. control knobs,

Most likely, the evaporator coil is covered w/ice, obstructin the air flow thru it and to the fridge side of the unit.

Remove freezer back panel (where the little fan is) and check for iced evaporator coil, if so, unplug unit and use a heat gun or hair dryer to melt ice, make sure all ice is melted andthe air duct going to the fridge is clear.

Once this is done, restart unit and set temp. 1/3 of the dial, ie. if the dial goes from 0-9, set it on 3. wait 24 hrs to make adjustments

We have a amana BX21VW bottom freezer refridgerator. The fan behind the back plate in the freezer section makes a very loud vibrating noise. If we put pressure on it it is quite. How can we fix it?

Good day,
There is no repair possible. You could try changing the blade only, but the best repair is replacing the motor and blade as a unit.
However, it is your choice on the blade only approach.

Amana side by side fridge and freezer not cold. The model #ASD2624HES I have done some research and I think it might be the relay switch or the compresser. If anyone had has this problem with this model...

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Part 4 on this diagram is your relay. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=ASD2624HES&productCategoryId=0165000&brandId=1268&modelName=AMANA-REFRIGERATION&diagramPageId=00013&componentDescription=COMPRESSOR&documentId=M0608085&backToLink=Return%20to%20subcomponent%20list Here's how you can check it. http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
