Turned refrigerator off for 8 hours, let the frost melt and the fan in the freezer worked again. The compressor now only has a soft clunk when it goes off.

SOURCE: freezer making a loud noise.
Sounds as if the evaporator fan has shaft play or the blades are out of balance or striking something. When you open the door the pressure is equal but with the door closed the fan needs to push the air through the evaporator and return again and circle through fan again. I think soon would be a good time to unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel covering the evaporator and fan motor to inspect the fan, shaft play and the evaporator for frost buildup or any obstruction of air flow. ok first i want you to pull your Refrigerator and look for a part of a loaf of bread or something else that has got inyour fan. hope this helps. if you don't find anything you may have a bad bearing on one of your fans. there are to fans one under the rear, and one inside the Refrigerator that you here when the door opens and closes pay close attn: to both!

Sounds like your compressor is not starting due to a faulty "starter PTC" a.k.a. start relay. Or a faulty compressor. The buzzing noise you hear is the compressor trying to start. When it's windings overheat, an internal cut-off switch "clicks" off until it cool down.
Then the cycle repeats.
