Try downloading the latest sound drivers or updated laptop drivers from HP Compaq website and install them. It is most probably a driver issue.

Toshiiba satellite p205 Internal Harmon Kardon Speakers Do Not Work

Most likely its a nardware problem.
If Device manager shows the audio driver is working and enabled and when you plug an headphone into the headphone/audio out and you only get sound from the right headphone then the audio amp chip is faulty.
If the headphone sounds OK then the easiest solution is to connect a set of powered speakers to your laptop.

I have bought my hp compaq 610 laptop one months ago but my laptop speaker is not working but with headphone it is working what should i do?

Do you hear any sound? If it is faint, try stopping and restarting the audio services. (for Windows Vista and 7) Click the Start button and type Run, click on Run. (alt press and hold the Windows key and then type r)
Type services.msc in the window. Then scroll through the list and select and click Stop for all audio services. Then repeat this but click Start for each one. Click Apply and then OK.

If you do not hear any sound, open the device manager and see if there is an exclamation point or an x (usually in a triangle) at the audio device lines. Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound. Right click on the line and choose Properties and try updating the driver. Check Windows Update and HP Update for any available driver.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(if these don't work, the wire from the motherboard to the speakers may be damaged/disconnected in the laptop case.)

My coumputer is saying there is no device although

I guess you are using integrated sound, Realtek or AC'97 or soundmax. The realtek & AC'97 indicate when a jack is plugged in or removed. If this indication is not being given, try uninstalling and reinstall the software and drivers. If any upgrades or updates are available in the net, then do download and update your sound software...................sodeep

Acer sound problem

You may want to try updating your motherboard/IGP drivers here: http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.7&product=2.7.4.3.3.3.1&contentType=Tech+Download+Chipset+Motherboard&ostype=&keywords=&items=20

Also, you will want to make sure your ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics drivers are up to date:

Start > Right-click 'Computer' > Properties > 'Device Manager' (under Tasks, top left) > 'Sound, video and game controllers'
There will be two Audio devices there, right click on both, one at a time, and click "Update Driver Software".
Restart your PC and try playing music/watching videos.

If there are still audio problems, I suggest you ask here as well: http://www.theacerguy.com/forum/

5.1 surround not working

I uninstalled the previous audio software that the computer had. (Realtek HD audio) and turned off the onboard sound card in the BIOS settings. Then I went back and uninstalled all the new audio software and reinstalled it with all antivirus programs turned off. The main trick was to make sure that the matrix is turned off. If it is on it will play sound from all the speakers at once as if it were mono. Turning it off after changing the BIOS and uninstalling the old software and reinstalling the new allowed it to work properly. I hope this helps.
