If it were me, I would try reinstalling the BIOS update again. Follow the directions very closely.
If that does not work, try calling Dell for help!

I believe the problem is that the BIOS is corrupt - I could be wrong of course. Good luck.

    a couple possibilities:

1 - If you think the PC is working but just the screen is broken, connect a monitor if you have one. If you dont have one (it gets tricky from this far away) can you tell by the LED lights or sounds if there is any disk activity? Does the PC seem to read the CD ? Does it spin up? If disk is not active it's most likely a corrupt BIOS not a screen problem. My guess is BIOS, especially since it was interrupted.

2 - If it is a screen problem, how did that happen during a BIOS install?? Was the PC dropped?

My dell inspiron 1521 cd rom player is not working

The driver needs to be reloaded. It may still be in the Dell Utilities Program, the Dell Drivers File, or it can be downloaded from Dell's website. Go to Control Panel/System/Hardware Manager and drop down to CD Rom Devices. Right click on your product and click on drivers/update driver. If your device isn't listed there go to install hardware in control panel. You might want to swap the CD rom unit with a known good one. On three occasions I've had the CD Drivers be OK, but the Windows drivers were corrupted. Had to reload the operating system completely to make it all work again.
