My microwave has a child lock on it.To set it all I need to do is press the start button for 4-5 second to lock and unlock. It may be something triggered it. It might be a quick fix until you find out what is causing it.
If yours is a GE JVM1640 or similar GE model, here's what the owner's manual says:
To lock or unlock the controls, press and hold CLEAR/OFF for about three seconds. When the control panel is locked, an “L” will be displayed to the extreme right.

1. Touch the "CANCEL" pad.
2. Touch and hold the "0" (zero) pad until the word "LOCK" disappears from the display and a single beep is heard.
