Hi Richard, The icemaker does not run or cycle. I have replaced the icemaker feeling that was the simplest solution. The optics check out fine based on the chart. Still it does not work, so I am wondering what else should be replaced or do I need to do something to "jump start" the icemaker? It was suggested I jump T and H on the icemaker connection.Open to any ideas and thanks for your time..Mark

OK, there are 2 possible causes here. We will look at the cheapest and most likely cause first. Get an old power cord and put 2 spades on the ends that will plug into the "water inlet valve". Plug it in for a moment to see if the valve will energize and pass water to the ice maker. If it doesn't, replace the water inlet valve. Here is the part to order. http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/clic... The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return.

am looking at the water inlet valve and am not sure what you mean "put 2 spades on the ends that will plug into the "water inlet valve".

  • mark cline Nov 07, 2012

so it is likely that the icemaker was never bad, and didnt need to be repaired...

  • Richard Roth
    Richard Roth Nov 07, 2012

Yes, you put 2 spades on the power cord and plug it into the valve, then when you plug the cord in it should open the valve to let water into the ice maker. If you have a double inlet valve, then the side that has the hose running up the back of the unit is the one to the ice maker.

  • mark cline Nov 07, 2012

sorry, so this is an electrical function(electrically jumpstarting the valve) not mechanical(clearing the line)

  • Richard Roth
    Richard Roth Nov 07, 2012

Yes, you are just seeing if the valve works by powering it directly.

thanks will try it over the next couple days and see what happens

SOURCE: icemaker not making ice

First thing to check is to see if the optics are working properly. This is the red flashing light on right hand side of freezer wall. Close the flipper door, be sure not to block the beam, and the light should go to solid red. If it does then the optics are ok. If it continues to blink then that is your problem. If optics check ok then pull ice maker out and remove the white plastic cover. It just pulls off. Look at the center of the gear wheel and see if one of the plastic tabs is either broken or if they are sort of twisted and touching eachother. If any of these things with the gear have happened then that module will need to be replaced along with the ice maker thermostat. If your not sure how to replace these parts then just replace the whole ice maker. That is much easier and not much more costly.
After changing the parts or the ice maker out follow these steps to start the ice maker thru a cycle. 1. Remove the ice maker from the cradle but leave the harness connected. Remove the front cover from the module. Unplug the refrigerator. Get a small jumper wire with bare ends and jump T and H on the module, leave the jumper in and set the ice maker on the shelf. Close the door. Now plug the refer back in and wait 30 seconds. Open the door and the ice-maker should be cycling. Remove the jumper, put the module cover back on and set it back in the cradle. The fill should take place when the ejector blades reach the 12:00 position. Follow these steps exactly in order

SOURCE: Whirlpool Side By Side not making Ice, but water dispenser works

I just resolved an issue with my kenmore elite side by side refrigerator icemaker (model 106).
It was expensive because I took the long road to fixing the unit myself.

My problem: No water going up to the freezer water dispenser into the icemaker but the water in front of the door working just fine.

-first thing i tried was the simplest. The Internet is clogged with this miracle fix of using a hair dryer to melt the frozen water line going to the dispenser output. This is highly unlikely for our model since the water line is protected within the refrigerator frame.

-2nd thing I replaced my water filter (thinking that there wasn't enough water pressure to trigger the solenoid valve. $40, and still no luck.

-3rd thing was I tested for voltage going to the solenoid. No voltage going to solenoid, so I wasted $30 for a new solenoid.....still no water.

-4th thing was I ordered a new IR sensor and receiver (since the reciever end is where the relay that sends the voltage to the solenoid to turn on and allow water to go up to the dispenser).
My IR sender and receiver appeared to be working flakey.
Installed, still no water. $58 BUCKS ON EBAY (EVERYWHERE ELSE $100+)

-I finally removed the freezer front little white door, I TURNED OFF THE FREEZER SWITCH SO NO VOLTAGE WAS PRESENT, removed the release latch underneath the freezer unit and disconnected, and removed the freezer unit to inspect it further.
When I removed the protective white cover that covers the mechanical wheel, I had a few parts come flying out of it. Turns out that the wheel accessories were damaged. THERE ARE NO REPAIRABLE PARTS ON THE FREEZER UNIT. I FOUND ONE ON EBAY FOR $39 BUCKS + $9 SHIPPING! $48 BUCKS, SWAPPED THE HARNESS AND BOTTOM COVER, AND IN 20 MINUTES, I WAS BACK IN BUSINESS. STARTED MAKING ICE IN ABOUT A HALF HOUR!!!!!

when in doubt, replace the freezer unit for $48 bucks! 7 out of 10 times it will fix your problems. All techs replace the IR set at the same time too which will set you back another $58 bucks.
Good luck! ;)

Hello,

Does water dispense through the dispenser ok in the door dispenser??

If yes wate r dispenses through the door ok the problem is going to be with the icemaker itself and its not sending power to the water valve when its supposed to fill so it could make the ice

If water doesnt dispense through the door check that water pressure into valve is sufficent..even if water does dispense what seems to be ok check first that thier is good water pressure into the valve before replacing icemaker

I have a Knmore side by side fridge, model 106.55606400. The ice dispenser have stopped dispensing ice. The icemaker working fine, the dispenser motor makes a sound when lever depressed for ice.Where do I...

One is the icemaker will leak on the auger motor and freeze it up as you describe. If this is the problem the ice will be very solid (hard ice). If this is the case check to see if the tube that feeds the icemaker water is clogged with ice and if so remove the ice and replace the water valve. If not the icemaker may be overflowing, which is still most likely due to a bad water valve.

The other thing that will cause this is an air leak. If it is an air leak the ice will be frosty more like snow than hard ice. But even so it will still cause the auger not to work. If this is the case check the little flap that opens and closes to let ice through the door to see if it is closing properly. Then check the door gasket to see if it is sealing properly.

Turning the temp. down shouldn't help nor hurt your problem.

Water not going into icemaker. Water dispenser works fine.

Check the water valve at the back of the fridge if present.

Even if you used blowdryer, ensure that linse are not frozen by performing a complete defrost.

Disconnect water lines from icemaker, and blow with compressor if the above did not work.

Maytag side by side fridge water dispenser not working

there are two water inlet valves on the back of refrigerator, one for icemaker the other for water in door. the valve for the water inlet is plugged or the soelinoid coil is bad. replace faulty valve, usually about 20 to 30 greenbacks at the appliance parts store

Whirlpool icemaker

Your unit has infered sensors on the frezzer left and right walls. There is a diagnostic test sheet brown in color in your kick plate. All you have to do is open frezzer door look on the right sensor it should blink twice followed by a 1-2 sec delay,if that is good press in flapper door on right sensor do not block path of infered beam you will not see a beam its invisable.Once you hold in flapper on right sensor the led should be solid. If solid optics are good if not solid led replace optic sensors

Icemaker works fine, only dispenses water

make sure that the ice shoot is not clogged up with ice or the in the ice basket where the ice goes through. Sometimes the ice can be stuck together and jam and nothing will come out.

Ice Maker on/off switch has blinking red light, will not produce ice. Manual no help

When you open the freezer door the light should be blinking. When you hold the flipper door shut (on the left hand side) without blocking the beam, the light should stay on solid. If all of this happens then the optics are o.k. If optics are ok then you most likely have a broken motor module on the icemaker and should replace the icemaker thermostat along with it. A bad icemaker thermostat will lead to the module breaking. If you not sure how to replace these parts then I would just replace the whole icemaker. That would be easiest and usually not much more expensive.
