Question about Frigidaire Model PLMVZ169GC Microwave Oven

1 Answer

My microwave was not receiving power, indicated by the panel display not lighting up when plugged in. I replaced the fuse and plugged back in and the panel was receiving power. I attempted to start the microwave (with food in it) and the fuse immediately blew again. I've tested the 3 door switches and both thermostat cut-offs for continuity and they are functioning correctly. I've read that that capacitor and magnatron can go bad but I do not know if they result in the same symptoms and I do not know how to test them.

The unit may also have a large diode, the magnetron can do this and also the large cap in a can if shorted.

SOURCE: microwave over the stove

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

It may also be a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

this may not be the switch its self but its physical position in relation to the door acuator. either the switch needs adjustment or the door actuator or door itself. recommend certifed engineer advise on this problem.

warning: mircowave is a high energy, if doors are not seated correcly then energy may leak past door shielding and cause injury.

SOURCE: Servicer with a PLMV169DCD Fuse blowing Problem

For future reference, we regularly repair such control boards and displays for customers nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so with a one-year guarantee.

Here's the main service manual. Other versions are here and here.

It may be grease inside one of the switches or arcing conductors (usually due to opening the door while it's cooking) making it sticky.

This was made by Sharp, so the side panel should come off each interlock switch for inspection.

But looking at the schematic, the monitor switch cannot come into play under normal circumstances unless the door is shut and the secondary interlock (relay RY2 on the control board) is closed and (oddly, if the published schematic is to be believed) if the oven lamp relay RY1 is closed .

Everything seems to point to a bizarre problem like maybe an intermittent short of a wire to the chassis, perhaps where a wire passes through a hole or guide in the sheet metal.

Also, you might consider unplugging the hood vent motor and trying it.

Did you try it with the oven powered from another outlet?

Also be sure the neutral and hot are not reversed at the outlet and that the line voltage is correct.

Sometimes a loose neutral can be a factor. Test outlets in several area of the house to see if some are high and some are low. This can be dangerous, and the power company must be called.

If there is anything else on the same breaker, that can be a factor.

Good luck!

SOURCE: I have a Frgidaire microwave

The unit normally draws about 13 amps of current when it's running, so it's not unusual for the wires to get warm.

A bad bottom door switch is very common in these units.

Once it's fixed, make sure no one opens the door while it's cooking. That causes premature switch failure.

Tell them to hit the "stop" pad first.

Hi I have a Samsung SMH9187 micowave that is dead (no display, light, fan, mirowave).

Sounds like the main fuse blew. It's either near where the power cord enters the cabinet, or behind the control panel (if an over the range unit).

You may also have some type of failure in the high voltage circuit; based on your description of the symptoms.

How do I replace the bulb for the display panel of a Sharp Microwave oven Model # R-314F ?

Normally switch power off and remove plug from wall socket, undo screws around side and back panel and remove outer cover, then the light socket will be visable so change light bulb and reassemble, CAUTION: high voltage may be present so best left to service person for safety

665.68601890 Acts as though it is not receiving power but breaker is not thrown. Is there an internal reset. Nothing responds - no lights, fan or microwave. Panel is black and non responsive

ther is on most microwaves a fuse inside usually located behind display panel located in a fuse block or will be on the control board itself.. normally a 20 amp fuse...try that first if not then make sure you have power to control and if so and no display most likely the display control board...
may luck out and be just the fuse though....good luck

Whirlpool microwave 2003 stopped working & inside light is on

The most likely cause is a blown fuse or a kicked circuit breaker. Look in the cabinet above the microwave and see if the microwave is plugged into the ou let in that cabinet. If it is plug a blow dryer or some other little appliance in to that same outlet to see if you have power there. If no power go to your electrical panel and either replace the fuse or turn the breaker off and then back on.

No display on LCD panel on my whirlpool microwave

I do not know what procedure you used to replace the door, but if the buttons and display were working fine before you replaced the door then it seems that there is a plug not plugged into the control display panel. Other than that the low voltage power supply may not be providing the needed voltage for the display and only for the logic circuits which are a different voltage. With the microwave unplugged, take the cover off and look at all the connectors and make sure that they are plugged into something and none that are not plugged in. They should all go somewhere. To answer your original question, there is only one main fuse to the microwave. The circuitry in the control panel operates on low voltages +/- 5 volts or +/-12v so that part is not fused. What I recommend also is to go back mentally through the procedure you used to replace the door and that may give you a clue as to what you unplugged, although you should not have to unplug anything.

No power from Whirlpool.

IF YOU HAVE THE MICRWAVE PLUGGED IN AND THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPS IMMEDIATELY WHEN SET,
CHECK THE DOOR HOOKS THAT TRIP THE DOOR SWITCHES. BOTH SHOULD BE SPRING LOADED. THERE SHOULD BE TWO HOOKS ON THE DOOR. IF O.K., CHECK THE DOOR SWITCHES. THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE. IF ONE OF THEM IS SHORTED CLOSED,
THE MONITOR SWITCH WILL CAUSE A DEAD SHORT ACROSS THE FUSE. THE FUSE MAY BE HOLDING BETTER THAN YOUR CIRCUIT BREAKER.

GE EMO3000 Over the oven Microwave

Do you know if the fuse blew again? You may have a problem with the powers supply section that powers the main board. The main board controls the display and receives input commands from the keypad.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good luck!

Power on a MV1526w Microwave!!

Yes, the display should always be on when plugged in.
Check the internal fuse. Unplug it, unscrew and take off the cover, the fuse should be easily found in the back by the power cord. It looks like a regular fuse but is white instead of clear glass because microwave fuses are special. You'll have to measure it with a meter as a result and be sure to replace it with the same kind. (try finding them at radio shack) Hopefully there isn't something more serious also.
Hope ya fix it!
