Question about Intel Motherboards

1 Answer

RAM Upgrade I have an IBM 8122 model system ! it has P4, 3.06 Mhz & 915G chipset ! I contacted lenovo support and they said it supports 400Mhz FSB RAM only ! While on contacting local retailers, they say it supports DDR 400, DDR2 400 and DDR2 553 fsb RAM. the DDR2 400Mhz one is only available at lenovo support. costs 4000 bucks for 2GB while the DDR2 553 MHz is available everywhere at just 1200 bucks ! what should i do ? lenovo support says that it wont work properly with 553MHz while retailers say it supports 553. what to do ? what should i purchase ?

thanx but i got 533 Mhz FSB 2x1GB RAMS.

    what you said is incorrect.
Intel 915G motherboard supports both DDR and DDR2 and its the only motherboard that has this feature.

nope...it has that divider in the mioddle.

as DDR and DDR2 both have a divider in the middle.
i searched google for the exact difference in looks !

but in my board, both are supported.
it came fitted with DDR 333 Mhz fsb. Worked gud
    Now i put 2x1GB DDR2 533 MHz fsb. It works gr8 !
and both had different slots as shown above.

maybe the key hole in my board is a bit large that supports both !

even i cant make out as all 4 slots look the same !

Let them install it for you. Go for DDR2 667. If it works, gret, if it doesn't scale down... But DDR2, and DDR 400 aren't nearly the same, they won't fit onto the same system, as their pin configs are different.

If the DDR2 doesn't fit, you'll have to go for the more expensive DDR 400.

Ok... interesting indeed. :) i stand corrected. I am curious as to how these RAM slots look. I'm guessing it doesn't have the normal divider on the board itself somewhere in the middle of the ram slot?

I have 266 mhz 256MB RAM with intel D845 board. I want to upgrade it to 512mb or 1GB. Can you please tell me whether 333/400mhz will be suitable or where can I get it in hyderabad

hlo hyn you should get RAM 200/266 MHz of 512mb or 1Gb

below are the specifications your motherboard can support.

  • Two DIMM sockets supporting 2.5V (only) 184-pin 200/266 MHz Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
  • Unbuffered non-ECC DIMMs only
  • Maximum total system memory: 2 GB; minimum total system memory: 64 MB
  • Serial Presence Detect (SPD) DIMMs only
  • Suspend to RAM

I have a 512 DDR2 (533 FSB) RAM in one of my slot in Intel D102GGC2 Mother board, can i put a 2 GB DDR2 ram in another slot.If yes then What FSB will match and what is the maximum capacity of ram per slot?

This motherboard will support maximum 2 GB of total system memory. so configuration is should be 1GB + 1GB or one 2GB in one slot. If you attempt to install 2GB + 512MB, this is unsupported. but you can try if might the system can read it or not. there is no serious problem for installing memory exceed than maximum system memory...
Memory supported is DDR2 533 Mhz and DDR2 400 MHz...(sometimes on the market DDR2 533 will described as module name PC2-4200 and DDR2 400 as PC2 3200)

Hey All, THIS IS URGENT. My PVCLE266M-L V3.0a will not boot into any OS. I have 2 identical boards. I can navigate BIOS on both of them with the DDR400 512MB RAM stick I have put in. (The specifications...

Your mainboard PVCLE266M-L does not support the DDR 400 Mhz RAM (PC3200) ie @ 400Mhz frequency. For the memory specfications it support "2 x 184-pin DIMM sockets support two2.5V DDR SDRAMs (DDR266)" maximium is 2GB or DDR PC2100 ie @ 266Mhz frequency.

PC133 is the SDRAM so it will not fit the DDR RAM slot.

You should not use the 400MhzDDR memory RAM on a Mainboard with a FSB(Front Side Bus) of 133 Mhz and the 400Mhz DDR Ram is not compatible with the mainboard.

Get the DDR 266 with double side chipset i.e.DDR1 RAM (DDR PC2100) RAM and it will be compatible with your mainboard. Sometimes single side chipset DDR1 RAM will not work on older mainboard.

Hope it helps.

I want to know that shall i put pentium 4/ 2.4 Ghz/ 533 Fsb/ Processor on this Gigabyte 845GVM-RZ board? will it support ?and i have 1 Gb ddr1 400 mhz ram will this work on this Board?

Yes for the Intel Pentium 4/2.4GHz/533FSB processor. (Socket 478)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_microprocessors#Northwood_.28130.C2.A0nm.29

(Scroll through. What sSpec number is on top of the processor's case? {You are following Anti-Static Precautions, correct? }

Won't support better than a Prescott Core Pentium 4. (Next chart down)

The Gigabyte GA-8I ((Supports 400MHz or 533MHz FSB)

NO to the Ram Memory.
The Gigabyte GA-8I845GVM-RZ supports DDR Sdram at 333Mhz. (PC2700)
IMHO it will not support DDR Sdram at 400MHz. (PC3200)

My reasoning is this;

Ram Memory typically operates at half of the FSB frequency rate of the Processor.

Processor FSB > MAXIMUM frequency rate is 533MegaHertz for the GA-8I845GVM-RZ
Ram memory at 333MHz is doable.
Not 400MHz.

No, you won't be able to overclock, and bring the FSB of the Processor high enough for PC3200 Ram Memory.
(The rest of the motherboard wouldn't work anyway if you did. PCI Express bus, PCI bus, etc., would not match)

No, u can't. ur motherboard is designed for pentium III processors with FSB -133 MHz, Socket-370 type. Pentium 4 processors have 400 MHz FSB, 423 Socket at least. But yes for memory, u can upgrade it to 512 MB.

Upgrading Processor & Graphics card

The Intel® 845G chipset is optimized for the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor supporting Hyper-Threading (HT) Technology†. It is designed with the high performance 533/400 MHz system bus and integrated high-speed USB 2.0.

Max Cpu
Pentium 4 2.8ghz with a 400mhz FSB and
Pentium 4 2.63ghz with a 533mhz fsb

pay close attention when getting your cpu if it has a 533 front side bus and is faster than 2.63 then the actual cpu speed will end up slower (you will see something like 2.1ghz) if it comes on due to multiplier limitations
