Run thorough virus scan.

Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install. They also fail and need to replaced. Mine only reads now. doh!

My hp laptop the dv6910us suddenly is not seeing the dvdrw drive which is optical. I can not figure out why

you could try reinstalling the driver, downloaded at the hp support site

and if that dosnt work it might be a dead drive, it will open and spin the cd, but it wont be seen by the computer, thus you might have to buy a new one to replace it or just purchase an external drive

Cd Dvd writer not working

Select CONTROL PANEL
Select SYSTEM
Select DEVICE MANAGER
(This will show you all your computer's hardware and peripherals)
Locate your CD/DVD "DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES"
Not listed?-Defective or no power. (If you can get drawer to open and close by pressing button, you know it has power.)
Listed? right click it, select PROPERTIES
(Yellow triangle indicates error)
First tab GENERAL shows if it is working properly.
Then click on DRIVER tab to see if you just need to update the driver, or roll back to a previous driver.

Hope this helps.

DVD doesn't open

This problem may be a bad cd/dvd drive. When the computer boots up, go into the BIOS setup. Check to see if the computer recognizes the drive, and make sure it is not disabled. Next, check in the "device manager" to see if there are any yellow question marks or red X's. This might indicate a driver problem, or a misconfigured drive. If these steps fail to resolve your problem, replacing the drive would be your next step. This is a fairly easy task, and worth the time to research the steps for your particular model.

Cd/rom not working

rub1 hello,

It seems like a hardware problem with your cd/DVD drive.
I suggest trying to use Windows Update, perhaps there is a driver conflict.
Try to update the drivers on everything, and see if this works.
If not, try rolling back the driver for the drive.
If none of that works, enter the BIOS by pressing F1 when your computer starts (before Windows gets on).
There, check if DVD/CD drive is Enabled or Disabled.
If it is disabled, it might indicate a hardware failure. Then, if warranty is still applicable, I would suggest sending your laptop to a service provider near you.

DVD drive on Toshiba Satellite M35X-S311 not working

Ooops! Hate it when I delete necessary stuff !!! Go into the device manager and uninstall the optical drive (cd/dvd drive), then reboot. It should find the drive and reinstall it. If it doesn't, then do a hardware search from the device manager. If it still doesn't find it, then do a system restore to a point before deleting the files.
