I cannot open files on my computer that require them to be open by adobe which I have on both my laptops. The files save then you have to open them with a program but it trys to open with word which does...

I assume that you mean Adobe Acrobat reader. First of all make sure that you already have installed this program. Go at start - programs - and browse all programs to locate that Adobe Acrobat Reader existing. A good idea is to open it in order to check that it's fully working. In case of a problem download it from this official link. Since you are sure for the Acrobat Reader's existence, right click at any pdf file (these type of files open with Acrobat Reader) - choose open with - go at the bottom of the new window "choose program" - at the new window select Adobe Acrobat Reader (in case it is not available click on browse and navigate at the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader x.x\Reader, select the file AcroRd32, hit open - check the box for "open this kind of files always with the same program" - hit OK and you are ready. From now on every time you will double click at a pdf file the Acrobat Reader will open this file.

I keep getting messages ..could not find acrobat External windows handler; . brand is e machines ..error messages,,

Hi Kate1958. I found this for you. Do one or more of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Remove all versions of Acrobat or Reader, and then reinstall one version.
If multiple versions of Acrobat or Reader are installed on the system, remove all versions and then install only one version. See the documentation included with Windows for information about removing programs.
Note: If you need to have multiple versions of an Acrobat product installed, remove all versions and then reinstall them starting with the earliest, installing the latest version last.
Solution 2: Start Acrobat or Reader, and then open the PDF file in the web browser.
If an error occurs when you try to start Acrobat or Reader, refer to Related Documents below, or search the Adobe Support Knowledgebase:
-- If you use Acrobat, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrobat.html .
-- If you use Reader, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html .
Solution 3: Make sure that the External Window Handler file (ewh32.api) is in the Plug-ins folder.
If this file is missing, reinstall Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
The default location of the Plug-ins folder is:
-- For Acrobat: Program FilesAdobeAcrobat [version]Acrobat
-- For Reader: Program FilesAdobeAcrobat [version]Reader
Solution 4: Disable Web Browser Integration.
Disable Web Browser Integration so that PDF files open directly in Acrobat or Reader instead of in the web browser.
To disable Web Browser Integration in Acrobat 6.0.x -7.0.x or Reader 6.0.x -7.0.x:
1. Open Acrobat or Reader.
2. Choose Edit > Preferences > Internet.
3. Deselect Display PDF in Browser.
4. Click OK.
To disable Web Browser Integration in Acrobat 5.x or Acrobat Reader 5.x:
1. Open Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
2. Choose Edit > Preferences > General.
3. Click Options in the list in the Preferences dialog box.
4. Deselect Display PDF in Browser.
5. Click OK.
To disable Web Browser Integration in Acrobat 4.x or Acrobat Reader 4.x:
1. Open Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
2. Choose File > Preferences > General.
3. Deselect Web Browser Integration in the General Preferences dialog box.
4. Click OK.
I hope this helps. Please dont forget to rate and provide positive feedback for our fast-free support today. Thank you :D

My system has adobe 9.1 but when i want to open some pdf it still says version 8 or 9 required

It sounds like you may have more than one version of Adobe Reader and/or Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer (not recommended) and the system is probably confused about which one to use when opening a .pdf document.
Right-click any .pdf file located on your system, and then, click Open With and then click Choose Default Program.
15f277b.jpg

In the window that opens, select the program that you want your system to use when you open a .pdf file (in your case it should be Adobe Reader 9.1). It *should* be listed under the Recommended Programs section but if it is not then you will need to use the Browse button in order to located Adobe Reader on your system. If the correct program is already selected, then I suggest you unselect it and then reselect it. Make sure the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" check-box is checked. Then hit the OK button.
As stated earlier, it is not recommended (and not supported) for you to have more than one version of Adobe Reader installed at a time. You should do the following if the above solution does not work for you:
In Windows, go to Start Button > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program
Look through the list of your installed programs for Adobe Acrobat and/or Adobe Reader. Uninstall them both (if you have more than one installed) then download and run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility to remove all traces of Acrobat Reader.
Now re-install your latest version of Acrobat Reader only.

Acrobat 7.1 shuts down after opening

Installing later version of Adobe Acrobat is sometime creating compatibility issue with previous installed Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Make a deep search for your condition on Adobe KB: for similar problem I had to Reinstall Adobe Pro AFTER an update of Reader free Sw.
