Question about Lexmark Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I am trying to load the Lexmark X6690 4-in-1 plotter onto my Windows XP Media Edition based laptop. The file structure is FAT32. I have tried to load the software & drivers from both the Installation Disks and also the Driver Download Section on Lexmarks website and both options crash out at the same point. The utility software & programs load on fine but the error occurs when the Printer Driver 5600-6600 try to load up and the laptop 'blue screens' and reboots. Once the system reboots, all the utility programs can be found in the PROGRAMS section but the X6690 Printer has been installed. The system is guarded by McAfee Anti-virus & firewall. Any ideas what the problem could be and how I can get over it? Any suggestions / help gladly accepted as I'm at my wits end with it thanks Mark Gilham

I gave this a quick go last night and got the same result but admittedly it was at the end of a rather frustrating weekend with it so I will give it another go tonight

    cheers for the advise.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a couple of ideas to try:

  • run the setup program by right clicking and run as administrator;
  • initially, temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

On a Windows XP-based computer, you cannot format a Memory Stick removable media device by using the FAT32 file system because there is no option to for FAT32 in the Format Local Disk dialog box. The only available option in the File system list in the Format Local Disk dialog box is FAT

So that you can use NTFS option to your HDD and then format the removable media device

FAT32 was the file type used for the early Windows operating systems. With the release of Windows NT and XP it switched to NTFS file system. FAT32 is still used however to transfer data between Mac and PC. The downside of FAT32 is the files read slower and file size cannot exceed 4GB. If you do not use a Mac I would suggest using the Disk Management utility in Control Panel under Computer Management to convert it to NTFS.

I am using Windows XP I tried to reinstall the operating systems and now have it twice under the one partition, how do i delete one of the windows installation to reformat the hard drive?

Its going to be a case of re-installing XP again.

As you go through the process, XP asks you which partition you would like to install onto.

If there's already and installation on the partition, you have to delete that partition.

As you continue through the process, XP will has you if you what kind of file system do you want Fat32 or NFTS. Choose NFTS and go for the full format. That should clear the drive of previous installatiions

Unfortunately, you will need to purchase another operating system disc, even though you have the product key. That key is assigned to the disc that came with the machine. Why exactly did the Xp disc of your father's not work?

IRiver H10 - Cannot update playlists

There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites.

WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.

Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to Windows-based computers.
You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself:
Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
