Question about Philips 32pfl3504d/f7

1 Answer

I have a 32" flat screen tv that will stay on for somewhere around maybe 15 minutes. It shuts itself off. It won't turn back on for anywhere between 30min to 1hr. Unplugging it and replugging it in doesn't seem to make a difference. There are no flashing code lights when it shuts off. I have opened the back and all of the capacitors look good, none blown, bulged, etc. There is no burn marks on any of the boards. I can't see anything wrong with it... Of course I don't have a schematic to further troubleshoot it, and though I have great soldering skills, it's been over 10yrs since I've troubleshot at the component level (and that was in college)... Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You are flying by the seat of your pants here---Philips only has schematics online for authorized service centers for a simple reason---they do not sell any parts--only boards.

I would try to monitor voltages out of the power board when set is working and then again when it fails----this sounds like a power supply issue but could be somewhere else--a missing voltage that was there when working but is gone when it goes out willl point to the problem area.

SOURCE: TV Powers off after 30-45 mins

I had the same problem with my 1 year old 26" TV. I called Magnavox customer service, and they had me upload a new software driver to the TV - which didn't solve the problem. Then they suggested that I call the local Authorized Service Center - and they estimated that it would cost $200+ to fix the problem. But then I found the "remove the back solution" listed here - and it worked!
Thanks, you saved me at least $200.

SOURCE: I have a Philips 50

I have the exact same problem! I have it hooked up to a power strip now to unplug it by flicking of the power strip and waiting for the red light to go out then I turn it back on while Channeling up 10 X's and then down and up until it comes on. I listen to the sound of the switch which it comes on. I turn it off if it is faint and then back on and channel up. Crazy process but it's been working. It takes about 10 minutes everytime to get the TV on until I get a tech to come out and look at it. The capacitor keeps a charge which is why the light is flashing with a code for 60 seconds./JJ

This is a plasma unit and philips plasma's are nortorious for bad power supplys, your problem may very well be the power suppy in the television, it is possible you blew a low B+ fuse on the power supply. There is also a issue with the Y-sustain board failing in this model, If you open the back and looking at the unit from the rear the y board is on the left side of the unit and the PS is in the center. disconnect the Y-sustain power plug from the power supply and turn on the unit if the unit stays on with no red light then the y board is bad. it does the same then replace the Power Supply.

good day!

that is better if pull out the power supply board to your TV to check the power supply easily..

some bad capacitors is not bulged or leak look like good but the value (uf)microfarad is change so its better if your tester have capacitance meter if not try to check the output voltage of power supply while connect it to the TV and power ON..

normally it should have 5vdc,12vdc and 24vdc if you encountered voltage drop on the said voltages you have bad capacitors for example the 5vdc got a voltage drop of have to do is replaced the capacitors that pass through..

thank you for using fixya..hope it helps.

Good day!!!

please try to disconnect the y-sustain and x sustain board to determine if that is the problem then try to power it ON...

if you can't hear the pop when you do that or the red LED is not flashing red..the problem could be the one of that board it could be the x or y so lets find it...

power it off again and try to connect one of that board only..if hear the pop or flashes red on your TV if you connect one of that board..that is the problem..for example: if you connect the y-sustain on the TV and you hear the pop and flashes red that is the problem..also try that procedure to test the x sustain board...

Older-model Toshiba TV shuts off by itself

There is a large sand filled resistor on the main board close to where the power cord attaches that cracks. This will stop power until it cools enough to make the connection then heats up rapidly to open it again. It may be worth the trouble if you're handy with a soldering gun and can get the back off the TV. If not then I'd consider getting a flat screen.

Tv has sound but no picture

I had similar problem with my Polaroid 42 inch. The screen would be fine for 10 minutes or so then go black. I found a work around that solved my problem and maybe you can to. What I did was remove the back panel of the TV. Make sure it is unplugged first. You should be able to see the electical board. Somewhere on the board may be a switch that says "Burn" or something with "Burn" in it. I set the switch to the "Burn" setting and the TV has worked fine ever since. Good Luck.

Emerson lc320em9 wont stay on, why?

I would suspect an issue with the power supply board, maybe even puffed up filter caps on that board---that is the place to begin.

I have a RCA 32" Flat Screen TV that shut off and

The sound was came from the clicking of the relay. This kind of symptoms is an indication of out-of-regulation condition on the power supply section. This is caused by faulty electrolytic capacitor. It will dropped the supply voltage and will trigger that kind of symptoms.

Faulty electrolytic capacitor mostly has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identified. See sample picture of faulty electrolytic capacitor below.

capacitor with bulged/dome at the top.

Check these parts on the power supply section. Once found, replaced it with same capacitance and working voltage which is printed on its body itself. Click this LINK for more info regarding electrolytic capacitor.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to look for a qualified TV Technician to isolate the faulty parts.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.
