Matshita DVD-Ram UJ-810 I/O Device Error with most DVDs Cds

This has been a four-year problem. While under warranty I would send it out, they would say it was fixed. I would play about two DVDs and then the I/O errors would start again. Even the Recovery Disk would not often work.

Now that it is out of warranty AND the Matshita DVD is still not working, is it worth replacing the DVD Rom? And if so, with what system?

It almost makes no sense to put in the same part since from what I am seeing on the other postings, the Matshita DVD Rom drive has a pretty bad track record in the Toshiba laptops. Any ideas? Have Portege M200 Tablet PC with WinXP Pro SP3.
Tried unsuccessfully to hook up Matshita DVD RAM UJ-810 USB2.0. Computer does not recognize its existence. drive doesn't respond when i put any disk in it.when i try to burn cds it keeps telling me to insert a blank disk,appreciate any help.oh yeah,it tells me the device is working properly.

I'd actually rather recommend trying another external dvd writer. The model/make doesn't matter. take it into a pc repair shop, let them connect an external dvd writer. if it works, and you buy it they won't charge extra, if it doesn't work, well, they can't charge you either

The MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 rejects all CDs


Not sure about the iMac, but on a winders machine, just uninstall the CD/DVD and reboot.

Maybe you can do the same ???

Physicall your DVD-Ram is defective. I have encountered like this before and what I do is change it a new drive. No more hope to read such DVD but rather than CDs is OK.
It is due to not often use with your DVD-Ram. Before I check it in computer center but later on it fails again so I buy a new one.
It's said the Speedometer is the problem or the "EYE LENS". Can read CD's but cannot read DVDs.

DVD Writer creates sound when is runs CDs/DVDs.


lenovo y410 model has default ODD (Optical Drive) issue.
Its better if u take extend warranty and replace...

We have had out Toshiba P25-S509 for a very long time. It's a great laptop and watching DVDs with a wide screen was great; That is, until the CD/DVD player was no longer recognized by the computer. We took it in (still under warranty) to have it fixed, only to not work again after a couple of months.

Now YEARS have gone by and I have bought another Toshiba (M305D-S4831) which is great unless you try to reboot and it doesn't fully start up. That's for another review, not this one... So, back to the P25-S509 and YEARS later. We just received two 1GB memory cards, which are being used to replace the "stock" two 256 MB memory cards. Well, the computer is MUCH FASTER and THE DVD PLAYER FINALLY WORKS!!! Woo-Hoo! $98.00 investment in memory cards saved up from ditching the older Toshiba.

Hope this review helps someone out there that might have had the same problem.

You can do that, but you're really just extending the headache. Matshita is **** (look closely at the sequence of letters in the name) :)

Buy a brand-name USB external DVD burner and go on about your life.

Since the drive functions on a bios level, try a bios update or flash. This should bring it back.

go to 'device manager', look for CD/DVD and ensure that the driver is functional for this specific model you mentioned. also check Toshiba website for any device updates for this unit.

I too had the same problem, just take the DVD case out by unscrewing it from the bottom, then open the DVD case and jently clean the lens with a warm cloth. Put it back in and start your computer. It will work well.
