Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Panasonic th-c42hd 18 stopped receiving middle-numbered channels from my outdoor antenna. Auto Scan feature (& manual scan) only picks up a couple low- & hi-numbered channels. Is it possibly the tuner? Set is only 3 yrs old.

The tv has been set to "air"always. The antenna cable also is routed thru a DVD player. However, a new antenna I ordered (Lava 2506 Ultra) arrived & it is picking up all the missing channels, without being mounted yet . On the down side, it won't rotate as advertised, so that's a different issue. Thanks for the answer, though.

Tuner is possible but check set is in air and not cable band---I would connected a dvd to see rear inputs ok---there may be a way to route the antenna signal to one of those and bypass the tuner(any box with its own tuner can be used.)

SOURCE: Channel Scan

If you have not discarded your old conventional TV or can borrow one, I would connect it to the same signal source you are using with the Olevia. If you get reception with the substitute set, then the Olevia is defective. If you live in a metropolitan area, you could also try sticking a piece of copper wire into the input of the Olevia and selecting antenna input as the source from inside the Olevia's setup menu. If you still get no signal indications (quality is not important for this), then the Olevia is defective.
I'm disappointed to see you having trouble with this set as we own one too. Also disturbing is Olevia's current state; they are in bankruptcy so I would start complaining soon and loudly if you have satisfactorily   identified the Olevia as the problem.

SOURCE: Auto Scan doesn't pick up any channels.

In the main settings, there should be an option for AIR or CATV, air is for non-cable and CATV is for cable tv. This has to be on the correct setting before you autoscan

I have, if I'm not mistaking, the same model TV, and it doesn't have an internal antenna. If it have a coaxial input, there is no internal antenna.

I have a VIZIO E552VL TV hooked up to an Over the Air Antenna and want to MANUALY put in channels NOT AUTO SCAN

Not sure if your TV is digital or analog, but I think an analog TV does not have the ability to perform auto scan, so you may be able to manually input the channels. As a kid, my dad installed a rotary antenna, and as it rotated and TV pictures displayed on the screen, dad noted the specific spot on the rotary unit; and every time we turned the set on, we just pointed the arrow on the dial on the unit to where dad noted what the channel number was on the unit, and the antenna turned toward that direction, and the pictured appeared on the screen.

Run channel auto scan

The auto scan feature scans the various channel frequencies looking for a signal. Weak signals may be picked up on one scan and missed on the next. Check your antenna or add a antenna power booster and try again.

WHY MUST I RESCAN ALL THE TIME?

You may have several problems. If you are using a indoor antenna, upgrade to a outdoor antenna. The indoor antenna has to be adjusted every time you change a channel. If you plan to sit in a chair and never move when watching tv, you may be able to pick up a channel or two. Get a UHF/VHF antenna from a home improvement store. The big box electronic stores are selling a digital antenna. There is no such thing. The antenna doesn't know if the signal is digital or analog, it just picks up uhf and vhf signals. The other problem could be that the box is bad if it is not saving the scan. I would check the antenna first from what you said though.

Are you useing rabbit ears? If so you may have to switch to an outdoor antenna to get those channels ( the digital signel is a better picture but the signel is not as wide as an analog signel so in most cases you will need an outdoor antenna!)
Also make sure your tv is in the antenna mode and not the cable mode!

Installed and setup RCA DTA800 digital converter. Ran a channel scan and did not pick up any channels. Have an outdoor antenna with an amplifier. Need advice.

Try bypassing your amplifier. I was getting an incomplete scan, and that solved the problem. I ran the scan without the amp in the line, then turned off the TV and converter and reconnected the amp.
