Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer
The wigwag has gone bad it's a eletronic magnet solnoid under the washer above the transmission ,it has 4 wires that just push on ,it engages the adgitation, one single nut holds it on .remember safty unplug the machine.

If you have the topload maytag as listed, It is possible for a transmission to have both symptoms, but it doesn't usually happen as you describe. If something came apart inside the clutch causing the shaft to pull up and keep the brake released, but also allowed the clutch to slip, this is possible.
I would suspect a brake or thrust bearing or both before a transmission. If you are able to turn the basket easily by hand, the brake is not applying for some reason. The thrust bearing will wear down so that it doesn't completely release the brake causing a slow spin. I find these two parts to cause more trouble than transmissions, but I do find bad transmissions occasionaly also. Post back if you want to know how to check them.
