Question about Philips 32PFL5403 LCD TV

Open Question

Sound quality problem

Picture is OK but sound deteriorates as volme control goes above 50% on all chanels. The sound is still there but there is a terrible 'flat metalic' sound superimposed as if the speaker diaphrams are torn. It started slowly about over 2 months or so I had to use computer speakers fed from earphone socket. Sound is better but metalic sound is still evident but much quieter. Is it speakers, amp or settings???

SOURCE: Sound Problem

Hi all
I also had this problem. I fixed it by tracing the fault to a dry joint on Z401, a zener diode responsible for the -7v to IC405/6.

There are 4 zener diodes (Z401 - 4) that should have between 6 and 7 v across them. They're visible from the top side of the main PCB.

There's an excellent Service manual available from here.

I'm listening to my LX3000d right now with a smile on my face.

Try in the headphone socket on a radio and check the sound then.

SOURCE: additional speakers

two options use the RCA audio out (red and white) on the back or side of the tv to connect to a home theatre system also you could use the headphone jack to connect to a home theatre system or some sort of external speakers. other than that it doesnt look like you have too many options on that model of tv if you need the owners manual here is the link for an online version.

SOURCE: Philips 42PFL3603 tv sound but no picture.

Hold a flash light to the screen after it goes off and see if you can see a faint picture. Sounds like your backlight might be cutting off. Repair can be expensive but some of the newer units don't require the entire LCD to be replaced.

Ive got a freesat dish and reciever but we get 90% signal but no quality any suggestions

Your on the wrong satellite, If your on any satellite youll get a high Signal but you wont get a high quality until your on the specific satellite. Astra 2A is for freesat. If you can bring that up on the menu then just keep moving the dish until the quality goes above 50% and that will suffice for a decent picture.

I have replaced a yellow cartridge and the colours

If this is a remanufactured cartridge, and its the yellow (new cartridge) that has gone weak, this could be caused by a missing idler gear.

I do the QC checks on a lot of these cartridges and have seen the occasional missing gear. It can happen sometimes.

The cartridge could have tested OK at manufacture, but then deteriorated in use

First, check the end of the cartridge with the white plastic 'end cap'. This is held on by a single screw (don't loose it, or the spring that pulls the two halves of the cartridge together).

Having removed the end cap being careful not to damage it, if the small idler gear is present, it will look like the following picture.

If the small idler gear is missing, this WILL cause rapid deterioration of print quality, certainly within 50 pages and I would have expected to see deterioration within less than 30.

The other side of the cartridge is more difficult to remove, and there are therr idler gears at that end, any 1 of them if missing will cause deterioration of print quality, though I would expect more than 50 pages before it would show.

Regardless, if the cartridge is new OEM, or new remanufactured, it should have some sort of warranty, so talk to your supplier.
