SOURCE: craftsman lawn mower

I had both my front wheels wobbly - so I cut shims from a tin can - wrapped the axle of the wheels with the shims and then inserted them back into the plastic bushes. It was a snug fit - but helped quite a lot.

Do you see a belt diagram posted on the deck somewhere? If you do follow it. One very important thing to remember with belts is the v-pulleys accept the v-portion of the belt and the flat pulleys accept the flat side of the belt. If I can be of more help please feel free to mail me.Donnyb60

I have a Sears YT 4500 Lawn Tractor. How do I straighten the front tires. One points left and one points right. I can't find an adjustment on the tractor

Craftsman makes a wonderful mower for the money. I've had 2. Until a couple years ago, however, they all had a huge problem - the front axles on these mowers were not cast-iron like the better, more expensive mowers. Accordingly, if you did something to put the front wheels/axle in a serious bind (like catch a tire on a good size rock or building corner with the wheels turned and while backing up and looking backwards), you may have seriously damaged the front axle. Sometimes that can be corrected with placing bushings in there if it's not too bad, but from what you describe it sounds like you've blown up the front axle. That's why your front wheels are going in different directions. Next thing: awful noises and inability to steer properly. I blew out front axles on 2 Craftsman mowers and repaired each of them before buying machines with cast-iron axles - Cub Cadet, John Deere. As I recall, about $235 each time.Got tired of it! The good news is that now Craftsman is putting cast -iron axles on most all of their higher end tractors. You'll need to have this done professionally if you want to keep or sell the machine. Then, go with a good, strong cast-iron axle. You can't adjust this problem. Sorry, friend. . .

I need pictures on what the axle is suppose to look like where the tire goes on and also what both sides of the tire r suppose to look lil on a Craftsman DLT 3000 riding mower. Someone please help this...

The first wheel and tyre in the video is complete, the second wheel in the video has the bearing and bush missing from one side, the bearing and bush are still on the axle that you are pointing at, they need to come off the shaft and press fit them back into the wheel, the mark around the outside of the tyre is a bead, this if fitted shows the tyre is true on the wheel, this is not so important on a slow moving tractor.

Steering is loose. How to tighten it?

Joseph, Most likely it is the bronze bushing at the other end of the steering shaft. You will need to remove the mower deck to access it more easily. The steering gear could be replaced at the same time if you want, you will be right there at both the bushing and the gear, the sector shaft hopefully is ok. You can view this with a flash light before disassembly. It is on the steernig shaft that goes behind the fuel tank, down into the frame. As you or a helper turn the steernig wheel back and forth, you can see the engagment of the steering gear and the sector shaft, to determine if they need replacing too. Your dealer should have a dozen or so of those bronze bushings. Its not a bad job to do.

Forward & reverse doesn't work on my Vangard lawn tractor, model 280777.It is a hydrostatic. Does it need hydrolic fluid? Where do I add the hydrolic fluid at?

i dont see there being any difference in what they take . on the standard lawn tractors they are not designed to be serviced easily like the gt craftsman tractors .. this will more then likely require removing the rear axle out of the rider and keep in mind there is a vent tube on top that will be cable tied to the frame . since this is a hydrostat it wont be as big of a pain as the geared versions ... other then tipping the axle over to let the fluid pour out the vent tube im not sure of any other way to remove the fluid ... to fill it you do so via the vent tube ... i will see what i can find out off my mower tomarrow and post back on here ... ill post my model number for my mower and see if yours looks the same and ill also post the axle model number to help n see if yours looks the same .. since the tractor wont move my idea is that you have water in the oil for the axle and or it dont have enough oil to move ... hang in there and ill get back with you tomarrow night with the info from my rider and we can go from there ..

I have a craftsman lt 1000 riding lawn mower and it runs, but it won't go into gear it goes into gear, but clutch won' engage the gear.

Look under the mower to see if the drive belt has come off or broke. It is the belt that runs from the bottom of the engine to the rear axle.

Craftsman lawn mower

Hi judycdenn

You can get replacement wheels from most decent hardware stores, either with ball race bearings, or just plain old plastic bushes. they don't cost much, I would take in my old wheel to get one that fits.

But before you go buying spares for the mower... you should read this
