Question about Radio Communications

Open Question

Can't erase a frequency from my Centruion CP97

My gate motor's receiver has been learning rogue frequencies, which is making me occasionally come home to an open gate; I've followed the normal routine to erase the memory using the jumper across the 'erase' pins, but nothing happens. If I press the button to open my garage doors, the gate opens. Apart from a security risk, this is also kind of annoying.

SOURCE: Door opener remotes not opening garage door.

You have to sync the remotes to the new code. For older remotes, you can open the remote and match the pin settings.

For newer remotes there's a button that you push in the back of the opener that sets in program mode (for Chamberlain). When you push the remote button, it will acknowledge the remote is programmed.

If this doesn't help, comment back on your particular model and we'll help you with the solution.

SOURCE: Radio Shack PRO-91 scanner keypad doesn't work

Try a master reset. You will lose all of your current programming but it resets the unit back to its original state when you purchased it. here are the directions from page 53 in your manual.

Resetting the Scanner
If the scanner's display locks up or stops operating
properly, you might need to reset the scanner.
Caution: This procedure clears all the information
you have stored in the scanner. Before you reset the
scanner, try turning it off and on to see if it begins
working properly. Reset the scanner only when you
are sure it is not working properly.
1. Turn off the scanner.
2. While holding down 2, 9, and Hold, turn on the
scanner. It takes about 3 seconds to initialize
and CLEAr appears.

SOURCE: Programming an Icom IC R5 scanner

This is a problem with any scanner which has no keypad..

First set the squelch (gets rid of the hissing noise and allows the radio to scan)
to do this....

On the side are 2 buttons, the bottom one is monitor.
press and hold then look at the display,
turn the top dial until "AUTO" appears,

The squelch should now keep the radio quiet.

Now the tuning step..
You need to set this because if your radio was on 450.000 and you wanted to listen to 450.012.5 you would miss it if your radio was making 000.025 "steps". IE you would need 12.5 steps. This is the most common step used by ambulance etc in the UK, you will need to check local band plans.
Stick with 12.5 and you should get most stuff on VHF / UHF.
For airband 12.5 will get most stuff, but some is now changing to 8.33.
For HF (below) 136 Mhz I'd use 5

To set the step....

On the front there are 4 big buttons.
press [V/M.S.MW.SKIP] to select VFO mode,
then press [BAND.LOCK] to select the band you want to listen to,
then press [TS.SET] to enter the step
turn the dial to select your step (stick with 12.5 for now)
press [TS.SET] to exit back to VFO mode

To scan...

First set the scan type...
On the front there are 4 big buttons.
Press and hold the one that says [MODE.SCAN] for 2 seconds and look at the display,
turn the top dial until the screen reads ALL,
press [MODE.SCAN] again and the radio should start to scan with the 12.5 steps you set earlier.
If you want to change scan direction, just turn the top dial.
If you want to stop the scan, just press [MODE.SCAN].

When you hear something interesting, make a note of the frequency on the display.

To set memories (store frequencies).....

On the front there are 4 big buttons.
press [V/M.S.MW.SKIP] to select VFO mode,

to get close to the frequency you made a note of, press [BAND.LOCK]
Then set the actual frequency with the top dial,
press and hold [V/M.S.MW.SKIP] for 2 seconds to select memory write mode (1 short and 1 long beep)
turn the top dial to select which channel you would like to overwrite. Start with 01.
press [V/M.S.MW.SKIP] for 2 seconds. ( 3 beeps )

Thats it!

Any more problems just post on here and either me or someone else will help.

I have an ET 500 gate motor. My neighbour's remote opens my gate as well when she opens her garage door. How can I change my ET receiver to prevent the neighbour opening my ET gate motor?

Most garage door openers and I assume gate actuators have jumpers or settings if computerized to change frequencies.
Both the remote and unit will have to be changed.

How do I change the frequency of a garage door opener 139.53930ODM?

Hi... You have to "erase all codes" (you can read that section of the manual and teach the opener to use the remote using a new code. You can get the manual at the Craftsman site, page 35. Essentially you do this: access the reset button n the back right of the motor, press and hold the 'learn' for 6 seconds or more, until the learn light goes off. TO reprogram it, press the learn button until the light goes on, then within 30 seconds, press and hold the desired button of the remote. Voila!

MY ELITE SL 3000 UL WILL NOT WORK WITH REMOTE. IT WILL WORK WITH THE LOOP. PROBLEM WITH BATTERY OR NEED TO REPROGRAM THE REMOTE, IF SO WHERE IS THE LEARN XMITTER LOCATED PLEASE HELP

Hi Mary, do you have more than one remote for the gate? Your remote needs to be paired with the gate receiver. Normally you need to push a certain button on the control panel to enable learning mode then you press the remote button you want to use. You will have to follow this learning process for your device. Please keep in mind that just any remote will not work with your gate, it needs to be on the same frequency and use the same modulation mode.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

I have heard of this problem before with remote controls for gates and car alarms.

If this only happens in these certain times, it is most likely that you live near a high powered TV or Radio transmitter which can effect the transmission of your remote control.
If this is so you made need to get a technician out from the company that supplies the motorized gate to re tune your remote and receiver in the gate to a lower or higher frequency, so it doesn't interfere.

I hope this helps

Need to change the PROGRAMMING. Need new code set-up. thank you.I have no manual.

  1. Gently press the Receiver Learn Code button on the power head receiver of your door operator. This small, black, unmarked button is located behind the light lens at the motor head and is nearest the floppy 6 inch antenna wire that protrudes from the motor head. When pressed, a radio signal indicator light will start blinking red for 30 seconds. **
  2. After pressing the Learn Code Button once, press your transmitter button three times for your system to grab the frequency and code it in. (Keep the transmitter you want tuned at least 2 feet away from the power head while tuning.)
  3. Press the transmitter button once more to test the system and start your door moving.

**To erase all Intellicode remotes and wireless keyless entry, hold down on the learn button until the indicator light stops blinking, then proceed to Step 2.

I bought 2 Minka fans and they are located within 30 ft of each other. The remotes operate both fans at the same time. The manual explains how to reprogram the transmitters but when I reprogram one how do...

The ones I've seen previously had DIP Switches in the Fan Receiver that had to be set the same as the remote.

If this is no longer the case then you'll need to isolate the supply to the fan that you want to keep as the original frequency.

If they're both wired on the same supply with the same wall switch then the only way will be to disconnect the supply at the fan and make the ends safe while you change the frequency on the other.
