Question about Dryers
Dryer makes a loud squeking sound when you turn it on. In the back of the dryer we found black residue. My husband said it was coming from the bearing which is completely burned up.

SOURCE: squeaky dryer
IF THE LINT FILTER IS LOCATED ON TOP OF THE DRYER,
THERE ARE TWO SCREWS UNDER THE LINT FILTER THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED. REMOVE THE LINT FILTER ALSO.
PULL FORWARD AND UP ON THE DRYER TOP( NOT JUST THE CONSOLE) AND DISENGAGE THE TOP FROM THE FRONT. THERE ARE HINGES ON THE BACK OF THE TOP JUST PIVOT IT UP OUT OF THE WAY. NEXT, THERE ARE TWO 5/16 HEX HEAD SCREWS INSIDE THE DRYER NEAR THE TOP IN EACH CORNER THAT HOLD THE FRONT TO THE SIDES. REMOVE THEM AND THE FRONT WILL PULL FORWARD. IT IS HINGED AT THE BOTTOM. LIFT IT OFF THE HINGES AND SET IT ASIDE. YOU CAN NOW UNDO THE BELT FROM THE MOTOR AND IDLER AND USE IT AS A HANDLE TO LIFT THE DRUM OUT OF THE CABINET.
THE DRUM SUPPORT ROLLERS ARE LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THE MACHINE AND CAN BE REPLACED AS A SET. THE NUMBER IS 349241T FOR THE TWO PACK.
CLEAN THE SHAFT WITH SANDPAPER BEFORE INSTALLING THE NEW ROLLERS. THEY ARE HELD ON WITH TWO TRIANGULAR CLIPS. JUST CUT OR BREAK THE OLD ONES. THE NEW ROLLERS COME WITH NEW RETAINING CLIPS.
AFTER REPLACEMENT, REASSEMBLE IN REVERSE ORDER.

Hello, sounds like the rear drum rollers are in need of replacement which is causing the motor to get hot and cut out on the thermal cut out. It can be tricky to service if you not handy. Good Luck

it could be a worn motor bearing, but they usually last for 20 years, i would guess that you have a worn drum roller, the thing that holds up the drum and looks like a wheel.
if your sure the motor has a worn bearing then replacing the motor is not easy as you have to unscrew the blower wheel from the motor shaft.
it also may be that you are talking about the idler pulley being worn. it is the device that holds tension against the belt and they also will wear out and be "wobbly"

Check white pulley on idler arm. Also check condition of the four glides around door bearing. A dry rear bearing ground strap will cause an annoying squeal also. Lubricate with a high temp grease to stop noise. Have to pull the drum to get at it. Check the rollers if its worn or not.
