You can't "convert" a 64bit OS to 32bit. You would need to re-install the 32bit version of XP. Sorry.

Not Enough Memory to run Microsoft Office Excel. Please close other Applications and try again..

Excel running on a 32 bit PC and using a 32 bit operating system can only address 2 Gb of RAM. If your machine has a 64 bit processor (these were being shipped over 5 years ago) it will be possible to install a 64 bit operating system such as Windows XP 64 bit or Windows 7 64 bit. It has been claimed that an Excel 2010 spreadsheet, running on a 64 bit machine and using Windows 7 64 bit, was able to load and use a database with 100 million records.

If you are unable to do this then I suggest that you examine what your machine is running at the same time as your spreadsheet and if any part of the spreadsheet can be off-loaded. By the latter I mean can any of it transferred to another Excel file?

Are you using any links on your spreadsheet, if so can the links be converted into data, e.g. a link to a lookuptable could be converted to data (copy, paste-special, value) and this remove a significant amount of processing load.

I installed 4 Gig of RAM memory but only 3.25 shows up.\r\nis there a test I can run to see if the memory cards are working correctly? Thanks. Paul

It sounds like you are running a 32 bit operating system XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (32).
The 32 bit Operating Systems are only able to see and use about 3Gb of RAM. To use a greater amount you will need a 64 bit OS (either Windows XP/64 or Windows 7/64) or one of the open source 64 bit operating systems.

Promble with Ram

No the problem isn't the ram, or video card, or lack of video cards.

The problem stems from using a 32 bit O/S, (Operating System), like Windows XP Home, or Windows XP Pro. (The 32 bit version of XP Pro. Microsoft made a 64-bit version of Windows XP Pro)

A 32 bit O/S will only 'recognize' UP TO 3.2GB's of ram. (Sometimes up to 3.5GB's)
You need a 64 bit O/S so that your computer will recognize all 4GB's of ram, when it is installed.

32 Bit? 64 Bit? What is all of this? It's kind of hard to explain in a few sentences. I would like to refer you to these links on Wikipedia, to explain 32 bit, and 64 bit further,

A.32-Bit:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/32_bit
B.64-Bit:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit

Sorry, no, you cannot 'convert' the 64 bit system to the 32 bit one. You
have a few options. All of them are coloured by the fact that the OEM
license gives you the right to use just the version you originally
received.

1. Remove the 64 bit version and install the 32 bit. To do this, you
might be able to arrange with the original source to get the 32 bit OEM
version. Alternate, purchase the 32 bit license of the retail version.

If the 64 bit version runs correctly (all the devices/peripherals work
correctly) and the issue is program compatibility:
2. Install the 32 bit in a dual boot arrangement. A Google search will
yield links to various sites with the instructions for doing that. Do
note that you should get the method for installing the 32 bit after the
64 bit
system.

Since you have an OEM version, your first point of contact would be
whoever you got it.
