Question about Sony VAIO PCG-K27 Notebook

1 Answer

NTDETECTION FAILED Once I turn the power on, all it will do is say Sony Vaio then the screen blacks out and next you see NTDETECTION FAILED. It continues to do this and only this, unless I turn it off. Is the recovery CD my only option? Is there not another option so that I don't lose everything installed and saved on my laptop? Thank you for your help!

It has failed to load the windows operating system, that why it is showing the DOS prompt.
You need to reload a working operating system such as Linux from disk to see what the problem is.

Screen is black

If you plug an external monitor in and that works, shine a bright light at the laptop screen and if you see movement, the backlight has failed, if nothing the screen has failed.

Hi k_angelc,

Since that water is spilled inside the Computer, please do not turn it ON or connect to the AC Power. This will cause serious Hardware damages in the Computer. I would recommend that you contact Sony Service Center to repair the Computer immediately.

You can contact Sony Service Assistance Team at 1-800-282-2848 to setup a service at Sony Service Center.

Hope this helps.

Wont boot up when plugged in but boots from battery

When you plug it in, does it show that the battery is charging? If not, then the DC Power socket has failed on the laptop, so a new power supply would not fix the problem.

The manufacturer will tell you to replace the motherboard, however the DC power sockets are readily available, and relatively easy to fit.

SONY VAIO notebook freezes on xp splash screen every 2-4 mos.

first, ensure your system restore is turned on and make a restore point right now!...assuming you have run a thorough disk check and de-frag. then, trust the system restore. I have used it with success 100% of the 20 or so times I have used it. Next, start using the "Hibernate" power down mode. I have found this to work wonders with third-party driver problems. It seems that once a good startup happens, then freeze it (and continue to get a good startup) with hibernate from then on. Last, check about every month for the quantity of restore points that have taken place automatically by Windows. Sometimes, depending on the size of the hard drive, too many points can begin to encroach on your free space that you want for virtual memory or data. So for example, I see 15 restore points in the last month, I will dlete them all by cancelling system restore. Then I use "clean disk" scandisk and defrag. Then I turn restore back on.
