The spark plug gap is too big. When the plug gets hot the plug expands a litle which increases the gap a litle more. Change the gap to 1mm.

How do I get my string trimmer to start

Sounds like its a petrol supply problem, need to check for a flow into the carb and if you have fuel then strip and clean the carb out as no doubt its full of muck from the dried petrol ,you should always drain the carb and squirt some oil into it when leaving it over winter

My Makita Petrol Strimmer won't start

If it is a gas (petrol) trimmer...then most often it is in the on/off switch on the handle. Before you go tearing anything apart...rock the on/off switch a few times to see if it helps.

I have a Honda 4 stroke trimmer (UMK431) that starts on 1-2 pulls and runs great for about 10 minutes then sputters and stops. I have to wait a while to start it again. What might be wrong? I did a full...

My Honda 4stroke Brush Cutter has the same symptoms.
It is caused by the petrol cap not `breathing` properly
.A vacuum forms in the petrol tank when the petrol is consumed and stops the fuel being pumped to the carburettor.
A simple remedy is to loosen the petrol cap momentarily when the engine falters.
Yes ,I know I should be fixing the cap `Breathing`ability....but that's for another day.

I have a rhobi strimmer only 2 years old wont start

I presume this is a petrol one. The fuel can dry in the carby and stop the unit from starting. Use fresh petrol.
I am not sure about the ryoby unit, but if there is a air filter, take it out and dip it in petrol, then try to start with the normal proceedure in the manual.

Cant pull the cord

To me it sounds like you seized the engine. Are you sure your gas and oil mixture was correct?
If it wasn't, from what you said that is what happened. Let me know.
Good Luck

Trimmer Question

mains, battery or petrol A hedge trimmer can be powered in 3 ways: mains electricity, rechargeable battery or petrol. They all have their advantages and disadvantages, so decide which is best for you. Electrical hedge trimmers provide a clean lighter weight option with the convenience of immediate and continual use. However you may be restricted by cord length - not ideal if the hedge is a long way from your power source and having a cord can be obtrusive and dangerous. Rechargeable hedge trimmers give you the best of both worlds. They're clean to use and have no cord so they can be used anywhere, without the danger of accidentally cutting the cord. They are less powerful than petrol models and you do need to plan ahead though and make sure your batteries have been charged. 5-7 hours of charging will give you just 30 minutes use. A second battery will give you back up but if you're cutting for long periods of time, you may find this timescale too restrictive. Petrol hedge trimmers can again be used anywhere, there's no cord so they're safer. Just top them up with petrol and away you go, no charging necessary. These models do tend to be harder to use - they're heavier, noisier and smoky.
